Loving my New Image and Precious Moments #R2BC

In all this Wintery weather I really love how it makes my home look

So what do you think? Do you like my new blog look? I really like it. Whilst the pink and purple really felt like me for a long time, recently I've felt our family had outgrown it and I wanted something a bit more grown-up and really personal. My girls are now 10 and JJ is 14 and taller than me and those little black silhouettes look very young.

So now we have a photo taken by me, at my home and some grown up colours - blue and gold to set it all off.  Do feel free to leave me some constructive comments if you think there is something that needs changing.

A Season for Everything

Autumn Park provided by Shutterstock

When it comes to blogging I've been feeling a bit washed up just recently. I started my blog in 2008 on a whim and here we are seven years later and I am still going strong. Or am I?

I suppose if you were to look at the stats you would say I am still going strong, I pull in around 45-50K readers a month, I earn decent money from my blog, I'm consistently ranked in the top 10 mummy bloggers each year by Cision (now Vuelio). My placing currently with Teads for parenting is 28 and 'll quickly pass by my Tots100 ranking where I have plummeted to 76 (from the top 30 where I have consistently sat for the last four years or so).

Permission for leave granted

Hey blog,

It is Mich here, did I tell you I put in a request for a few weeks leave? I'm feeling a bit weathered and there is lots on my mind, so I'm going to take some time to set my priorities in order, to rest in God's loving care, be with my family, go to the gym and to have some fun.

I explained here that I need to remember who I am and to find out what it is I'm scared of.  Those chains I mentioned that needed breaking, Yep I'm gonna have a go at that as well.  It takes quite a lot of energy so I've given myself permission to be absent from the blog for a while, probably around the same time as Advent, which is perfect as it means I will focus on what should be the number one priority in my life and that is my relationship with God. I've been sad to realise this has been siding down my to-do list recently.

You know me, I find it hard to keep away, so the odd post might pop up as I'll of course fulfil all obligations that I had committed to, but in the main there will just be some silence over here or maybe some pretty pictures, we'll see how this pans out.

I'll miss you, but I know I'll get over it (in the nicest way), I always do when I have a bloggy break. Then I come back raring to go and full of beans ready to capture the world!

Love, Mich xx

You see this picture of the sea, I'm right at the foot of the picture at the moment, just pondering how I will navigate my way across that first stretch of water to reach the land you can see beyond. When I reach that land I'll be back and ready for the next chapter and diving into the big deep blue sea beyond. I'm not feeling scared, God is with me.

My Blogging Charter Meme

So after a week or so of numerous posts about PR relationships, bloggers being blaggers and the so-called cliques of the parent blogging world I've had enough of all that and to put it to bed I have written myself a charter for blogging.  Written in jest but actually the sentiments are true but no before you worry, I am not taking myself too seriously! So here we go....

I Michelle, Mummy from the Heart... promise to -
  1. Believe in myself and stand by anything I write.
  2. Be honest and open in all that I publish.  My integrity is important to me and I won't be compromising it for anyone or any brand.
  3. Post what I like, when I like even if you, yes YOU find it boring and irrelevant. Don't read it, there is a choice you know.
  4. Appreciate my readers by responding to comments and trying not to publish too much drivel. I'll also try to stop by your blog and comment too.
  5. Never publish anything that is just done to pinpoint or humiliate another blogger/ person.
  6. Ensure that my ratio of reviews or sponsored content never exceeds 1 sponsored post to 3 personal ones.
  7. Support others bloggers, especially new ones.  Not making any harsh judgements about them or why they blog.
  8. Respond if you tweet me.  I'll talk to anyone, I may not have anything interesting to say but I'll happily chat away to you if I am on twitter.
  9. Keep hosting Reasons to be Cheerful to do my bit for spreading gratitude around the UK parenting blogsphere.
and lastly and probably most importantly -

   10.   Ensure that I am taking adequate time away from the laptop and the world of blogging
and social media to ensure that I remember who my kids and husband are, what fun is
and how to laugh.  Life is all about laughing you know.  It is good for the soul and even
           good for the skin!

So tell me, if this was your charter, what else would you add to it?  Have I missed any obvious ones?

Also, I have decided to make this a meme and to ask other bloggers to join in and to declare their charter.  It can be anything - funny, feisty, fictional, fantasy or fact!  Just go for it...

Time to tag 5 bloggers -

Jane at Northern Mum, as you know hers will make you chuckle
Mummy at The Boy and Me as I tagged her once before and she blew me out!! Debt owed
Emma at Mummy, Mummy, Mum as she is such a thoroughly nice blogger
Helen at Actually Mummy as she is a fab new blogger, doing really well to establish herself
Rachel at MidLife Single Mum as I just love her and think she should be in the UK not Israel! Most inconvenient!

So grab the badge, write your charter and pass it on to 5 (or 50 if you feel that way inclined) other bloggers and lets remind the blogsphere that we blog for us and we answer only to ourselves!!

Blogging Charter Meme at Mummy from the Heart

Come on then, define blagger for me... Is it me?

So I have hardly been blogging recently and have read very little and even I have seen how much is being said at the moment about mummy blaggers. Blaggers? yes you read that right, not bloggers.  Blagging seems to be the topic of right now! Take a look here if you are out the loop and want to see the great debate on this post.

So what is a blagger?  From what I can gather they are someone just out for what they can get.  I looked at the Urban Dictionary and it basically says to blag 'is to gain something of material worth by cheekiness or trickery, apparently lying is acceptable too'. Hmm nice, a term I'd like to be associated with then.  I think not!

I then asked on Twitter what people associate with the term Mummy Blagger.  Nickie told me "someone who "blags" (blatantly asks) for review items because they cant be arsed buying them". I have to say she made me laugh, that is probably a pretty good description of blagging. Daddacool suggested "it is a blogger who is only in it for the freebies".  Yep probably another good definition.

Given all those definitions I sit here and think, 'good, no way I can be seen as a blagger then can I?' I did my first review in October 2010, I started my blog in February 2008. I have 732 posts on this blog and only 41 of them are reviews (yes I have a review blog but even that only has about 50 posts). So my ratio is about 7 personal posts to 1 review, a good balance in my mind. I receive well over 50 emails a week offering me items for free, I say yes to about 3 of those and I review honestly stating the negatives of a product as well as the positives.

But then....  I start to think about how the first event I went to was because I asked another blogger to put my name forward and then the best days out review I have ever done I got because I asked yet another blogger to put my name forward and not content with that review, I then asked the same PR if they were happy with the response they had to my review and could I come back and review another part of the park? I go on blogger.ed and BritMums and I'll respond to PR requests on there and I'll respond to tweets from PR's and brands.  So let's think again, does that make me a blagger?

No I hear some of you shouting, not you Mich.  You are like me, an established Mummy blogger who enjoys some of the perks of having a well established and popular blog....  but then I can hear others, ones who hate any kind of review or those with longer-established blogs than mine who may say yes, all that qualifies you as a blagger.

So here we are with a totally subjective matter. We will never all agree on this. For the record, I do not regard myself as a blagger. If I think something fits with me and my family profile I will say yes to an approach or I may ask to review it if I know there is blogger activity going on but in general I do not email out or tweet to ask for product reviews, I just do not have the time or inclination to do that. Good reviewing is hard work.

I feel like I am in a minefield with this blogging lark.  There are unwritten rules all over the place and no-one knows when they have overstepped an invisible line.  All I can do is stay true to myself and continue to do what feels right. I advise you dear reader to do the same.  If something works for you, go with it.  As long as you sleep at night and you hurt no-one then who am I to criticise or dictate to you how to live your life.  You want to send out tons of #PRRequests a day on twitter then go ahead, I can always unfollow if you get on my nerves.

So what do you think on this? Be honest (I can take it), has my asking before put me in the blagger category?

Short N Tweet Journey of a Blog!

You might have seen my recent blog post that I posted in tweets.  I had quite a few comments from people saying they liked the style so I have designed myself a badge and I will post every so often (you know, when the mood takes me) in a tweet style. As someone who has a tendency to ramble this will help to keep me 'Short N Tweet'  (get it, see what I did there?  OK, stop laughing AT ME!)

A post I have been thinking about for some time is how my blog came about and grew and changed. So today I give you the journey of Mummy from the Heart...

#10 February 2008
Blog, good idea. OK, I'll give it a go.  Create it and call it what?  'My Life', that is as good a name as any!

#15 February 2008
Hard work this blogging lark, where do I find the time with 2 x 7 month old babies and a 4 year old? Think I might have to give it a miss!

#19 March 2009
OK, I need to try again.  Blog attempt number 2. Change the name or keep it as 'My Life'?  Keep it, it is what it is!

Cheerful about all things blogging! #R2BC - Wk 22

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

Evening all, don't the weeks go so fast?  Here we are Thursday night and time to be grateful again....  but hold on, there has been an extra dose of gratitude this week for Tara dedicated her Gallery linky to Christine of Thinly Spread.  You will have read on here that Chris is off in Mozambique this week with Save the Children. In case you have been away from the blogging scene and missed it, I'll just reiterate that there is a very important petition that needs your signature.  You think it is fair for all kids worldwide to get vaccinated don't you?

Thanks for signing up and now onto my own reasons for being so cheery this week!   I am dedicating this weeks #R2BC to all things blogging. So many people have no idea what blogging is and boy are they missing out.  Blogging comes with a whole load of benefits -

1. A massive support network to help you through the tough times.  When I suffered a miscarriage, who was there? When I am struggling with my food addiction, who is there?  Why, it is all of you wonderful readers.  God bless you.

2. Making some great new friends, ones you have never met but you can have a real laugh with.  Take yesterday I posted and slated @Nickie72 of Typecast fame and luckily she completely knew I was having a laugh and it really did cheer my dreary day at work!

3.  The added bonuses that come from writing a well read blog. Monday we had a review trip to the London eye, which the kids loved, Tuesday we had a review trip to Ask (Italian restaurant) and Wednesday a gorgeous Morphy Richards kettle and toaster arrived at my door.  How can you knock that?

4. How can I not mention as well that I have been shortlisted as a finalist in the MAD blog awards for the Best blog for Family Life. Click the link and vote for me if you feel compelled....

You know the routine by now, link your happy/ gratitude post up and go and visit others. If you are new to #R2BC then welcome, check this page out and see how it all happens.

Oh and I realised that I have not been linking over to Maxabella's just recently, so I am putting that right again today.  Over in Oz there is a very similar (but longer running, more slick...  you get the picture) linky, so join up there too and make some new friends across the other side of the world!

If you liked this post, please use the Tweet button on the right! Go on, it's very easy. Cheers Mich x

Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3 - Week 13

Welcome to this weeks Reasons to be Cheerful.  It has gone a little bit different over here this week and I have done you a Vlog.  Seeing Wendy and Paula show off their talents last week I thought I ought to get in on the act - what a harrowing experience I have found it to be,  not sure I'll be back in front of the camera any time soon!
Anyway enjoy......

and these are the promised photos of dh -

You know what to do now, share your #R2BC.  I thought that might be an easier hashtag than #Reasons2BCheerful - what do you think?

I have put the badge over in my side bar if you want to grab the code and use it in your post, that is where it will always be from now onwards.  No obligation thought, I would rather you are sharing your reasons and spreading some joy than feeling stressed about any perceived rules.

Have a marvellous week.  See you next week?  Same time, same place.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and can I just ask a quick favour while you are here please?

Would you mind leaving me a comment with some feedback on R2BC.  What do you like about it?  What would you like to see changed?  Would you like a prompt each week to help stretch you and make you think about why you should be grateful in different areas?  (ie: home, family, work, nature, being). Have you got any great ideas for improvement?

Thanks a lot, Mich x

Notes From The Heart...

Dear So and So...

It has been a long time since I last wrote a notes from the heart post!  Far too long....  I love the 'Dear So and So' link up that Kat at 3 Bedroom Bungalow created and I have been remiss in not joining in recently.  So I aim to kick myself up the bum and start it again.  I remember when I used to do these posts regularly, they were always the ones that people would say to me they loved.

So off we go....

Dear JJ

Boy do we have some ups and downs with you little man. I feel so proud of you right now, you are trying really hard at school, your teacher tells me that he can see the immense effort you are making and I am really loving the fun that we have together.  My heart swells when I realise that Daddy and I are doing OK and you are growing up to be a delight.

When we saw the child psychologist last week for your next consultation in this long line of assessments towards finding out if you have learning difficulties you conducted yourself really well and gave me the space to talk to the Consultant.  It was nice to meet with a professional who understood what I was saying and recognised that there could be a real need that you require help with. It will be interesting to see what your occupational therapy assessment brings up and once you finally have your full communications disorder assessment in the next year we will know much more but for now I feel that it is a good thing that you are in the system and now have a professional championing your case.

Thank you babe for being you.  You make my life so much richer.

Mummy xxx

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miss M

Thank the Lord that you are on the path to being well again.  Chickenpox really knocked you for six didn't it? You can be such hard work at times. How stubborn can a 3 year old be?  Your definance is not OK young lady, as I have told you many times before I am the boss and you will do as you are told.  This is not because I am a mean Mummy but because it is my job to teach you right from wrong and also some manners.  I love you with a passion that is untrue but you have to stop pushing me to the brink.  You are such fun when you are behaving yourself and life is much easier for us all.

Here's hoping for a good week....

Mummy (who loves you soooo much!) xxx

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miss E

Yes you can be stubborn at times and have some funny, quirky little ways but generally you are an absolute delight, where did you come from?  I am sure you are not really one of my children.  This beautiful mellow manner that you have is totally unfamiliar to someone as manic as me.

Thank you baby for providing me with a little bit of tranquility.

Mummy xxx

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear blog,

I love you but why do you absorb me so much? I seem to have got in this awful habit of blogging every day and it is not even because I feel I have to it is because I have so many posts brewing in my head that I need to get them out but I do wonder how I will sustain this, so you may just see a few less from me and that will be a good thing.

Your master!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To my wonderful readers,

I love you and value you.  Each and every one of you, whether you pop in every day or just stop by twice a year, you are what make my blog what it is. Whenever I used to post one of these notes from the heart I used to tell you I had X number of followers and that my next target would be X.  Well, I think I have come of age since then, as I now have over 330 followers on here, 180 on my review blog and over 500 subscribed through feedburner.  I feel OK now, I do not need to set another target.  Currently I sit at number 13 in the Tots100 parenting chart and 9 in the Wikio parenting chart and I feel pretty darn proud. My aim has always been to keep my blog as an honest reflection of me and all that is important to me and I think it does that.

Cheers all, Mich x

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To my food obsession,

I hate you, I want you out of my life.  If only I did not have to eat, things would be so much easier.  One day this big issue will be solved but for now I need to put one foot in front of the other and keep going....

I need to learn to love myself from the inside out.  Another blog post on this coming real soon.

Unhappy in Herts!

The Curse of my Second Instinct!

Standing in the kitchen sorting the dishwasher, when I hear squeals of laughter coming from the garden, how nice I think.  I do love that the girls enjoy playing together, peek out the window and whoops, what on earth are they up to.  Mummy instinct kicks in and I rapidly push my way to the back door and out into the garden. 'Girls, you will hurt yourselves, get off now...',  'Oh Mum' says one of them 'but...' starts the other.

Then, oh my goodness what is this taking over me?  It is that dreaded second instinct, I am sure you know the one.  See something funny and in kicks the blogger instinct, quick where is my camera? 'Oh all right, hang on then' I shout to them behind me and off I run to the kitchen, far quicker than I ran out in the first place, you know the worst may happen now, they might move and I may miss THE shot!

So what where they up to?  Well, the girls had decided that it would be fun to ride their scooters on the trampoline and really, it did look like a lot of fun.  Luckily once I had sent a completely mixed message I did insist that we remove the scooters from the trampoline so that there would not be any trips to A and E, well not for yesterday anyway!

Does anyone else suffer with this curse?  Darn you blogging for making me such a bad mother, who now wants to capture all sorts on camera....

See Miss M actually bouncing while riding her scooter.  Daredevil!

Come on make me feel better, are you a bad Mummy too?

Writing About the Big Stuff

There you were thinking that New Bloggers Fortnight had finished but not so. Peppa Pig may have come and intruded but there are two final post to come. Today we have a really insightful post from Penny at the Alexander Residence to see us out. This is what Penny says about herself -

Writing about life with small children.

Being a mum to two under five. Being me. Finding the balance.

I gave up my teaching career to be a mum, but after four years I have itchy feet. My thoughts generally revolve around escaping suburbia, making space to write, reminding myself to make the most of my wonderful small children now, while furiously plotting what to do next. I am working on a creative writing diploma with the OU.

(Subtext – My mum has brain cancer and I am scared)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly thanks Michelle for having me, I really admire the support you are giving to the blogging community and your honest yet positive outlook. There are so many types of blog out there, and there have been some excellent posts this fortnight about finding your voice. I asked Michelle if I could write this post about blogging about the darker sides of life.

Deciding how deeply to delve into your life when blogging is a big decision. Opening up absolutely terrified me as a new blogger. Do you know that feeling when you post something, then feel hideously exposed and have to sit on your hands to stop yourself deleting the post?

I didn’t write about my Mum’s cancer initially, partly because she was reading my blog, but also because blogging was an escape from thinking about cancer. The day I won the Fresh Voice category of the British Mummy Bloggers Brilliance in Blogging Awards, I found out mum was dying. I had a huge bubble of subtext which was about to explode all over my fairly upbeat blog tales of day to day life with kids, which people were now looking at. More importantly, my offline life was exploding.

I thought a lot about whether to blog about mum dying. I am glad I did it. Writing about my feelings was very cathartic. I worried people would stop talking to me, but the opposite was true. My posts put me in touch rapidly with people who had similar experiences. I gained some great perspective from knowing I wasn’t the only one to have lost someone.

Even if people haven’t been through the same experience, emotions like loss, grief and guilt are part of the human condition. Every comment brought comfort, even when people protested they didn’t know what to say. Just the fact people said something was special. Blogging helped me in my offline life too. Friends read my blog and understood how to support me. I printed off my blog posts to help the celebrant who led the funeral service gain a picture of my mum.

I worried about hurting my nearest and dearest. I asked my family’s permission to post about mum’s death because things happen more slowly offline. The rest of my family’s grief is personal and I respect that.

I went through a long process of grief, but to those who haven’t, the thought of losing a parent is a very raw and painful thing to contemplate. I am generally a positive person, and I choose to write honestly, but positively, and with hope. I felt a sense of responsibility to my reader, and to myself, to find that hope. Again that’s another big, personal decision.

There are days I desperately want my old blog back, to post whatever I like, and for my grief to not be part of it. On the flipside I could write about my mum in every post, but my blog is one of many sounding boards.
I took my time thinking about how to write and I wrote at a time when I had made blogging friends to support me. The blogging community amazed me. I am beginning to give something back, to offer my support to other bloggers going through tough times.

Deciding whether to open your heart is a very personal decision. Another option is to blog anonymously on a friend’s blog, or via blognonymous, a network of established bloggers who host and support posts by anonymous writers:

Paula at Battling On

Jay at Mocha Beanie Mummy

Nickie at Typecast

Emily at Mummy Limited

Bumbling at Bumbling Along (some of our bloggers are anonymous too!)

Sandy at Parent Confidential

They are also on twitter; follow @blognonymous

Thank you so much Penny for such an honest post you have certainly made me think about what and how I post in the future. I think that we all need to stop and think carefully when we blog about other people's stories. I have massive admiration for you being able to write this post now at such a raw time for you. Thank you, Mich x

Trish Shares the Stresses of being a Newbie Blogger!

Another day and another blogger....  and you won't be disappointed, this lady will make you laugh, she has a fabulous talent for it!  Or maybe it is just me who finds her funny?   Leave a comment and let me know.  So here is Trish from Show and Tell Ideas introducing herself -

I am a mother, lover, blogger and former professional CV writer. After falling asleep on my computer keyboard several years ago….and accidentally mass emailing the CV of a major bank executive to everyone in my email address book….I decided I needed a fresh challenge. As luck would have it, I found myself wading chest-deep in a muddy lagoon gathering frog spawn for my daughter’s kindy “Show and Tell” the very next day. Aha! A lightbulb went off inside my head. So I subsequently set out on my own personal mission to turn “Show and Hell” into “Show and Tell”. I now author my own website, offering fun and easy Show and Tell Ideas for kids and busy parents. I blog because I love writing about life, making people laugh and meeting new bloggy friends.

________________________________________________________________

Now Mich has invited me to guest post on her blog to cast a little insight into some of the more stressful aspects of life as a newbie blogger. “Wow, what a gig!” I hear you say. And, yes, you’re absolutely right. What a gig indeed. So thank you Mich for inviting me into this special space you have created at Mummy from the Heart.

I started blogging in early January 2011. And what follows is my story so far.

Now, let me start by saying that when it comes to some aspects of life (like blogging), you could call me a little naive….Okay, very naive….Okay, I still believe that my daughter didn’t eat that last chocolate biscuit in the fridge last night even though her face and hands were smeared in some suspicious brown, sticky, delicious, sweet stuff. (Well, actually, yes I do believe it. I just had trouble accepting it. Tears were involved….Mine not hers. Well, she got to the biscuit first, damn it!).

But I digress…..cravings for sweet things are another subject entirely.

Where was I?…..The stressful perils of being a newbie blogger and being naive.

Now, when I first walked out to the edge of the diving board of Blog World….and peered down into the lustrous, aquamarine depths of the Blogging Pool below….I was overcome with a very unfamiliar feeling. I poked around inside my head for a while trying to figure out what this unfamiliar feeling was. Eventually, one of those very useful little light bulb thingies went off inside my head.

Confidence. Yes, that’s what I was feeling. Confidence. Confidence that I could leap high into the air off the Blogging Pool diving board, execute a couple of extraordinary Bloggy acrobatic moves, and slip effortlessly into the Blogging Pool below….(all to the muffled sounds of the crowd cheering and applauding my incredible Bloggy success, of course). Seconds later, I would triumphantly emerge from the Blogging Pool to see Bloggy Judges holding scorecards, every one of them perfect Bloggy tens.

So, armed with my Bloggy confidence, I decided the first thing I needed to do was form a Bloggy Action Plan (BAP for short). Now this took only a few seconds.…but my BAP was very sophisticated nonetheless. “Build it, and they will come. ”What do you think? Pretty original isn’t it?

Still, I had to get this just right, so I decided to break my BAP up into two very important parts. The first part was “build it”. So I immediately went in search of free blogging software. Aha, success. Within a matter of minutes, I stumbled across numerous sites offering such software.

Now, apparently any trained monkey can get a blog up and running in a matter of minutes. And this actually turned out to be very true. What they failed to add, however, is that if you’re a newbie blogger with zero technology skills (such as moi), your new blog will also look like it has been put together by a trained monkey.

Now I call this phase of implementing my Bloggy Action Plan, “Serious Setback No. 1”. And it was a very stressful time. I mean, given that I had so much confidence when I first set out on my Bloggy Adventure, I had immediately made my blog public to “the world”. Now I couldn’t find the damn button to make my blog un-public. And that glaring bloody great “PREVIEW” button had somehow escaped my notice as well.

So, “the world” watched on as I fumbled around with my standard template, adding and removing gadgets, trying to upload pictures and hyperlinks and generally stuffing things up a good 80% of the time.

And speaking of stuffing things up, I am also here to tell you that there’s a damn good reason why so many of those “text colour codes” start with the letters “fffff”. Because that’s how many times you’ll say “the f word” before you finally hurl yourself on the floor in tears and accept that you’ve ventured into the “Advanced” section of your blog template designer way too soon. Unless, of course, you have tech skills, in which case all the “fs” might stand for words like fun, fantastic and fabulous!

Now, after enduring many days of incredible stress and humiliation over the fact that “the world” was so publicly watching me learn to master the technical aspects of setting up my blog, I then encountered Bloggy Action Plan “Serious Setback No. 2”.

Yes, this was the moment when I realised that in fact “the world” wasn’t watching me fumble around after all.
In fact not even my own family was watching!! This was indeed a serious setback, because it threw the whole second phase of my Bloggy Action Plan into serious jeopardy. Remember, “build it and they will come”? Well actually, no, they won’t come. Because no-one even knows I exist!!!!

Okay, I need to rectify this situation quickly if my BAP is ever going to work. How do I let “the world” know I am here….toiling away writing incredibly important and meaningful stuff that they simply must not miss another second of?

Now, somewhere in the depths of my memory I remembered that the words “Twitter” and “Facebook” had
become pretty popular in recent years. But what were these things? I decided to Google them to find out. A few hours later, armed with a wealth of new found knowledge, but with my stress levels still escalating, I decided it would be wise to take on only one of these new things at a time.

So I opted for Twitter. Yes, I signed up for my Twitter account….walked to the edge of the Blog World diving board….and dived right in. Holy crap!! Clearly I hadn’t paid enough attention to language classes at high school. Suddenly I was immersed in a world of English-speaking people fluently speaking to each other in another language. And, what’s more, once I’d figured out this new “secret language”, I realised that they weren’t always talking to me. They appeared to be talking to each other. Was I being rude? Should I listen in? Was it okay to interrupt the conversation with my own thoughts?

Now I have to be honest and say that while I’m still not always doing a great job keeping up with my tweeting, I’ve actually come to quite like Twitter. It allows me to plug my blog so that “the world” does know I exist. More importantly, through Twitter, I’ve met lots of great new friends around “the world”. Friends that do actually pop into my blog and read my latest blog post and leave lovely comments that make me smile.

Which leads me into “Serious Setback No. 3”. Now that “the world” is finally reading my blog, “the world” actually expects me to write something. Go figure!! And here’s the thing. Not just once. No. “The world” actually expects me to keep writing. In fact “the world” expects me to write something new at least 3 or 4 times a week. Every day even! Hell, what do they think I am? A blogger or something?

So, here I sit….only a month into this blogging gig….with everything just starting to come together rather nicely thank you very much….but with a mild case of “Post Traumatic Bloggy-Action-Plan Syndrome” nonetheless. Yes, sadly, I am feeling a tad stressed and overwhelmed from trying to keep all my Bloggy balls in the air all at one time.

And I know it could have so easily been avoided. I mean, I could have decided not to set up my blog and post my first bloody blog post 5 minutes later. I could have learnt the technology of Blog World “behind closed doors” instead of revealing to “the world” (okay, my cat) just how technologically inept I really am. I could have taken a night course in how to speak “Twitter” so that I understood that RT stands for Retweet and not Railway Timetable . I could even have pre-prepared a few incredibly witty, insightful or poignant blog posts about my life, all ready to upload at a moment’s notice, lest I feel under any pressure.

But did I do any of this? No. Sadly I’m a “fools rush in where angels fear to tread” kinda gal. So, instead, I walked right up to the edge of the diving board of Blog World and I dived straight in. An act of foolishness? You betcha. But I’m here now. And I am gradually starting to unwind and enjoy it now that I’ve clocked up my first month.

But if I had my time over again, would I do things the same way? Are you kidding me?? Hell no. I’ve almost driven myself insane in the past month just trying to keep up.

So you see, while it’s definitely too late to save myself, if you are about to jump off the diving board of Blog World and become a newbie blogger, I can almost certainly save you.

Thank you Trish.  Tomorrow will bring you another great guest post as part of new bloggers fortnight here at MFTH... Tomorrow we say hello to Ghost Writer Mummy who will talk about being honest and finding your own blogging voice.

Bloggy Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3 - Week 6!

I found it pretty hard to sit down and write this today, even though I had planned in my mind what I would write yesterday morning.  Rather than wallowing in the gloom that I feel at this moment I'll just write what I had planned -

  1. I have moved up in the Tots100 chart, not just a small move, I am listed at number 20.  How amazing is that?  Last year from about Sept - Dec I sat at about 117 and then bombed in Jan for some reason and now I am at number 20.  I don't really expect it to go on forever but it is nice for now...
  2. There has been a ton of support for new bloggers fortnight. Some super fabulous people are guest posting (you know who you are ladies) and there has been some great feedback on twitter and BMB. Also ladies just to let you know, your page views have been really good - so people are reading....
  3. I have received some lovely emails in the last week or so from companies looking to work with MFTH...  Watch this space for some wonderful giveaways.
  4. All my wonderful readers and friends I have made through blogging make me so grateful.  I can not wait to meet loads of you at Cybermummy.
  5. I m so pleased to have this avenue to let all my feelings out, no need to ever bottle it up again - blog it instead!
So there we go,  a happy week for my blog.  I just wish that some bloggers could be happy for those who start to feel anywhere near successful. Posts that damn mums who blog that enjoy building relationships and perhaps working with brands are just not helpful.  What gives anyone the right to poke fun and make snide remarks about other bloggers? What makes the cynical few the judge and jury of what anyone else should do with their life or blog?

.... and now I have that out I must stop being sad about it.  Sometimes the smallest things can upset me and make me feel unhappy. Why I let others steal my joy is beyond me. Logically I know they are not worth my emotional energy.

Sorry peeps, full on positivity will resume here at MFTH... again very soon!

So now it is your job to share your gratitude and joy and help to cheer me up.  What are your reasons to be cheerful this week?

Wishing you a fabulous week, Mich x

Jumping Straight in with Meme's & Blog Hops!

Another day and another great post for you.  Today's blogger is Wendy, who you can normally find over at Inside the Wendy House (smart name for her blog, huh?)  This is what Wendy says about herself -

I'm a vegetarian stay-at-home mum to five amazing kids (aged 1 to 22!) and am happily married to my childhood sweetheart.  How blessed am I!  I love entering competitions, watching horror films and eating cake.  I'm enjoying my foray into the Blogsphere and look forward to where this journey will take me!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tentatively entered into the Blogsphere in September 2010, so in essence I'm still a newbie myself. I wasn't sure I was qualified to inhabit my own little corner of Cyberspace, and worried what on earth people would make of me, a pretender in this unknown world, where everyone seemed so much more sophisticated, knowledgeable and interesting than me. Would anyone, other than my own mother, really want to read my ramblings?

Well, my fears turned out to be completely unfounded. The blogging community turned out to be a very friendly and welcoming place. Everyone was once new and remembers that first step, so they are all very willing to proffer advice and support. Getting followers who are not blood relatives is a huge buzz and realising that your words are reaching others is most humbling.

One way to enjoy the full blogging experience is to get involved. I quickly released that there were regular weekly opportunities to join in with other bloggers. For example, the use of memes is a fun exercise that's very much like a game of cyber tag! Someone writes a post and invites others to write posts on the same theme and then link back so other posters can then read everyone elses' entries. Memes travel across Cyberspace and can quickly become worldwide as they spread from one set of followers to the next! The benefits of taking part include often having a thought-provoking theme to inspire you; it gives you something to write about on your blog; you get to involve others in an online game which helps establish virtual relationships; it creates traffic on your own blog which hopefully translates into new followers and comments; it enables you to discover wonderful new blogs that you yourself can follow and learn from.

Bloghops provide a shared linky list which can be displayed at the bottom of numerous blogs. Readers can literally hop from one blog to the next following the list, creating a real sense of community. The more you take part, linking up, visiting other blogs and commenting on posts, the more you get out of it. Becoming a weekly regular gives you a real sense of involvement. You always have ideas for new posts, so there is never an excuse for writers' block! You make friends and start to feel like a real accepted member of blogdom!

Some regular blogs that let you link up are Sticky Fingers' The Gallery, Mocha Beanie Mummy's Silent Sunday, Kate Takes 5 Listography, The King and Eye's Blog Gems and Mummy from the Heart's Reasons to be Cheerful, 1,2,3. They provide a fabulous starting point and are lots of fun to do. Give them a try and before long you will be creating and hosting your own memes and bloghops!

Thank you Wendy and as she rightly points out you can link up with me here on my Reasons to be Cheerful weekly meme.  Every Thursday night about 9pm (or earlier if I am being efficient!) my post and linky is live for you to link up with.  The idea is simple and one I would recommend everyone thinks about.  Gratitude has a wonderful way of melting a frozen heart and planting a grin on your lips!

Metal Mummy Talks About Your Blogging Identity

Day 2 and today we welcome Metal Mummy!

Metal Mummy is a completely nuts 26 year old mum to one crazy but precious toddler demon, Freyja. She is a Stay at Home Mum who works part time at a local rocker bar in Portsmouth where she has recently bought her first house with her husband-to-be. Having started the blog in 2009, it was only in September 2010 that she actually made an effort with it and has found the mummy blogsphere to be a hugely welcoming place and has enjoyed every minute of finding her feet. She loves metal music (obviously), horror films and reading crime fiction and wears her heart on her sleeve. She hates liars, beasties with more than 4 legs and puppets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I first started my blog back in June 2009, it was in no means supposed to be anything other than a record. A record for Freyja to look back on when she’s older. A record of her milestones and all those special times I didn’t want to forget.

That was what it was supposed to be anyway. I started wanting to write more. I wanted to rant and rave when I felt the need to, or write a post just for the hell of it. Although I wanted to base the blog around my daughter, I didn’t want it to be solely about her.

So, in September 2010, I basically started again. I had been reading a few mummy blogs for a while, and I thought to myself, “Why can’t I do that?” – Why couldn’t I try and get my blog out there? I had as much chance as anyone to have a popular site. I wanted to share my experiences, my opinions (and obviously, my fabulous daughter) with all the other wonderful mummy (and daddy) bloggers in the blogsphere. I never realised the phenomenon of parent bloggers stretched so far. There are thousands of us writing about our lives, and thousands reading and finding interest.

When I decided to try and interest other people with my blog, rather than just my hub and a couple of select friends, I tried to make it more appealing. I considered changing the name. I decided against it, and I’m glad I didn’t. I guess re branding works for some people, especially if they are focusing on one area of themselves, their specialty or their work for example. Metal Mummy was my blog name from the start. I really didn’t want to change that. It represents me. I’m a mummy. I love metal music. I did wonder whether the name “caught” the reader as much as some blogs do. For example, I think Sticky Fingers is a fabulous name for a blog and another favourite is The Boy and Me – simple, but effective. I did question whether Metal Mummy would cut it in comparison to other blog names out there. But I stuck at it. I had managed to gather a few select subscribers, and registered on forums and things. I didn’t want to have to start that again with a new name. Not when the existing one suited me fine.

Once I had decided that I was going to stick with Metal Mummy, I wanted to network. I had no idea how to do such a thing. My social networking capability stretched as far as Facebook and that was mainly to catch up with friends or giggle at drunken photographs. I rarely used Twitter and didn’t know anything about #hashtags or forums. I don’t know how but I managed to find my way to British Mummy Bloggers – a fantastic site full of handy tips and conversations – it’s also a brilliant place to meet other bloggers. I then discovered Blogger.ed – a site now bookmarked and visited daily.

It’s only been recently that I have had my site redesigned. It’s pretty handy having a web developer as a hub. I do like the free Wordpress themes you can get, but I wanted something personal. I wanted something to catch peoples’ eye as they navigated my site. I didn’t want a bog-standard layout because I’d had one of them since I started rambling and I was bored. I see all these fabulous themes and headers on other peoples’ blogs and they are fantastic. I wanted that. So my hub set to work and, although it’s still being tweaked, I love the end product. I felt good about the appearance of my site for the first time since I started blogging.

If you are planning on making an identity for yourself, like I planned to with Metal Mummy, I think personally, it’s important to stick to the same name throughout. Although I already had a Twitter account, I started a new one so that it was recognisable with the Metal Mummy brand name.

Twitter has proved to be an absolutely amazing place. I can see how people get so addicted to it. So many lovely people to talk to and laugh with, to offer advice or to listen. I’m still learning about it though – I’ve only just got to grips with hashtags, and my knowledge of that is pretty flaky. Once I knew my domain name was here to stay, I set up my own Facebook page too. It’s fairly easy to do and it’s a nice way of expanding your social network. I still need to remember to actually use the page though...

That’s my main problem. Although I have other social networking accounts – ways in which to spread the Metal Mummy word – I don’t actually use them half as much as I should do. I see some fabulous bloggers on Twitter all the time, pimping themselves and chatting to each other – I think it’s fantastic, I really do. I just forget to do it, and the lure of the TV of an evening, or the lure of a friends’ house during the day is too much for me to stand. I would like to start using Twitter more than I am though – especially as I’m off to Cybermummy – it would be lovely to get to know a few more bloggers before I roll through the door!

I think my whole Metal Mummy identity is pretty set now. I have a twitter account, a Facebook account, I’m on the forums. I’m gradually working my way up the Tots 100 – I’m number 166 this month – I was so chuffed with that, considering I was in the 300s last month! I have a blog that I’m proud of. A blog that’s been designed just for me.

The only thing I need to worry about now, is finding stuff to write about to keep you guys interested... Oh, and what to wear for Cybermummy...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you Metal Mummy!  Also just to add from me, one of the things I found most useful when creating my blogging brand or identity was to find an image that suited my blog.  For me I have my big bright heart and that image is now everywhere, I have an avatar of the same, a gravatar and am currently creating a Favicon.  On every forum I visit or comment I leave my heart appears and that endorses my presence in the world of parenting blogging.  My only exception is twitter where I am told people like to see my face(!) and thus I have one single picture I use of me, as whilst variety is nice, it is much easier to remember me if I present a united front.

My advice is to have a fun afternoon exploring google and see what free images you can find to use or go and visit a professional designer such as Violet Posy and get yourself a very smart blog makeover. Whichever way you choose is your decision but there is so much great help in the world of blogging that you Will be able to do it.

Tomorrow on MFTH... New Bloggers Fortnight there will be a post to direct you to tons of super tutorials, giving you tips in how to back up your blog, create a clickable badge, take great photographs and loads, loads more.

New Bloggers Fortnight!

Starting Sunday 6th February it will be New Bloggers Fortnight here at MFTH...

In early January I started paying more attention to the new bloggers threads on BMB and felt that I was now established enough and had some time to be able to visit, chat to and give comment love to some new bloggers.  In the last month, I have been bowled over by the number of new mates I have made, mostly all new bloggers!

I started the Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3 linky and in the main, this has been supported by relatively new bloggers and I love this.  I feel as if we are building a beautiful community and all getting to know each other really well.  Cybermummy 11 should be a blast!

I remember all too well what it felt like to me when I was a new blogger.  I was totally overwhelmed at times and I just wanted to be liked (how sad!).  I got so stressed that I took a 6 week break for Lent last year. I would say it was only about September when I found my feet and started to understand twitter and engaged with other people.  I am pleased to say things have come on leaps and bounds since then.  Have you seen I am at no 8 in the Wikio parenting blogs chart for February 11?  Anyway enough, this is not about me...

The idea for the new bloggers fortnight was born from the post I did a couple of weeks ago where experienced bloggers shared their top tips.

So what is there to look forward to during New Bloggers Fortnight?
  • I have some super guest posts lined up for you.  Who better to give advice to new bloggers than new (or relatively new) bloggers themselves? So far, my guest posters will be @SusuRem @SAHMLovingit @wendymcd83 @_SHOWand TELL_ @metalmummy84 @PaulaHaylock
  • The guest post topics will include the stress of being a new blogger, finding your voice, building relationships, joining in with meme's and blog hop's and creating a bloggy brand.
  • I have a post to point you in the direction of a couple of dozen super tutorial posts from great Parenting bloggers.
  • There is also a post to help you to decide if you want to work with brands and take paid content on your blog.  Then if you do it helps you to know where to start...
  • Part 2 of pick of the new parenting bloggers
What else do you want to see?  I have a day or two free at the moment.  Feel free to make a suggestion.  Or if you want to write a guest post, let me know.

Cheers, Mich x

Why Thank You Kind Ladies!

Last week I was very happy to go onto twitter and find 4 mentions that I had been nominated for blog awards.  How fab is that?  I am very grateful and honoured that you ladies wish to bestow your awards on me.

First up we have the Smile award  and I received this from Carole, Paula and Wendy too! Wendy even said I helped her to see joy in the mundane and grace in small things, ahh I am nearly tearful now.  I had no idea I was so wonderful!  All 3 of these bloggers have started their blogs within the last 6 months and they all make for very good reads, so do go visit them and share some blogger love.

Then the other (naff!) award I received was from Jen at The King and Eye and this is the most amazing blog.  If you have not been over to visit Jen then you are truly missing out.  I always feel like I am round a good friends having a cuppa and a chat when I pop into Jen's.  She is a real community maker and a totally nice person too.

The memetastic award was created by Jillsmo and she attached the following rules -

1. You must proudly display the absolutely disgusting graphic that I have created for these purposes (put it in your post, you don't have to put it in your sidebar, I think that would seriously be asking too much). It's so bad that not only did I use COMIC SANS, but there's even a little fucking jumping, celebrating kitten down there at the bottom. It's horrifying! But its presence in your award celebration is crucial to the memetastic process we're creating here. If you need a higher resolution version... I totally have one!!

2. You must list 5 things about yourself, and 4 of them must be bold-faced lies. Just make some shit up, we'll never know; one of them has to be true, though. Of course, nobody will ever know the difference, so we're just on the honor system here.

3. You must pass this award on to 5 bloggers that you either like or don't like or don't really have much of an opinion about. I don't care who you pick, and nobody needs to know why.

So here we go, these are my five, but which one is true?
  1. I am currently in the 65th spot of the January Tots100 index.
  2. I lost my virginity when I was 14 and I am not particularly proud of that fact!
  3. I actually have 4 kids, I had my eldest when I was 12 and as such my parents raised her, so I think of her as my sister.
  4. I am a great skater and I used to compete as a child.
  5. I harbour a secret ambition to be a F1 racing driver.
So can you spot the truth when it stares you right in the face?  I know some of you will as you will have known me since I was a child! lol

Now I have to nominate 5 other bloggers for this truly fabulous (Jen called it Naff!) award -

Laura @ Yummy Mummy, Flabby Tummy (which I do not believe for a moment, just to add!)
Rebecca @ Two become Four
Alethea @ Mom on a Wire
Jay @ Mocha Beanie Mummy (as I would love to try and guess what her true one is!)
Hannah @ Metal Mummy

Before anyone even has to ask, these are bloggers I love!

Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3 - Week 2. Join In Now!

Here we are again, it is that time of the week! How quick this first week has passed, I have been excited and nervous for this second week wondering if people will join in again. I do hope so. I class last weeks link up as a major success as 38 of you took the time to join in and I went and visited you all and cheered myself up immensely. I can not promise to visit you all every week, my visits this week led to two very late nights and two days of grumpy Mummy! whoops.

Onto my reasons - My reasons for being cheerful this week -
  1. JJ, he is enough to make anyone happy.  He can drive you bonkers at times but on balance is divine. Here is a snippet from his prayers last night ' Dear God, Sorry that I keep TOOTing (talking out of turn - calling out basically) at school I do not mean to.......Thank you that I have the best teacher in the world....... Please help all the poor people to have money, all the hungry people to have food, all the thirsty people to have water and the people with no houses to have shelter.... Amen.  He certainly made me smile, proud and well up all in the space of 5 minutes.
  2. You guys. I love my blog and more than that I love the people who come here and visit and support me.  Things seem to be going well at the moment and I am enjoying everything bloggy and twitter too.
  3. I have been mainly abstinent this last week. If you are not sure what that means, read this post. It is always a minor miracle when I manage to go through a week without eating on my every emotion.  I weighed myself yesterday and was pleased to see I have dropped 10lb since after Christmas.  Still a long way to go but one day at a time.
Here is the lovely little button if you want to use it in your post of pop it on your side bar.  No pressure but it would certainly make me smile!

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy with a Heart

and remember that if you tweet your post or promote others to use the hashtag #Reasons2BCheerful on Twitter.  Then we can all keep up with each other!

So over to you.....  Here is the linky.....  Thanks for joining in,  Mich x

(Don't forget this is a blog hop, so you can easily get the code and paste it into the end of your Reasons post and then your friends and followers can join in without having to come back here.  Some of you did this last week and it seemed to work very well, but again no pressure).

A Year Walked in my Shoes...

I have gained so many new readers in the last month or two, so I thought you might like to know a bit more about me and my bloggy journey, so this is my walk through 2010.  A year in my shoes if you like!  You'll see, none of them are too glamorous but that is OK as I do not aim to be a glamour puss...

The month of January was a very cold one and I was glad of my nice new brown riding boots.  A January sale bargain, just what I like!  This was the month that I decided to be brave and to open my blog up for public viewing.... little did I know what I was doing! I wrote about what I wanted to achieve in 2010 and feel really good to know that I did and this was also the month when I shared with you dear readers about my eating disorder.

In February I got motivated to go to the gym, which was great but it was a real up and down month for me in regards to blogging.  In early February I said thank you to some amazing bloggers who had inspired me as I started my journey but by mid-Feb I was feeling completely disheartened when I did not make it into a blogging carnival.  I had a moment of clarity when I knew I had got too involved in this blogging lark and I gave it all up for Lent, staying away for just over 6 weeks.

So in March, I lived my life - played with my kids, went to the park, had time with dh and thoroughly recharged my batteries!

April comes and we head off on holiday to Spring Harvest at Butlins and have an amazing family time. I am still on bloggy break and find that once Easter passes I am not that desperate to come back...  until I have some unexpected news to share - I'm Pregnant. Sadly it was not to be and I was back blogging just a few days later at 11 weeks pregnant, that actually I had lost my babe and had a missed miscarriage.

May, I throw myself into my work and think about how every bad situation has led to something positive in my life and I was not proud of myself when I made my little man cry, but it was necessary.

In June I asked you dear readers to help me get some perspective on my life - was it just too busy?  The answer seemed to be yes and I am pleased to say I have been remembering this ever since. Dh and I enjoyed a weekend away on our own - bliss! At this point I recall being amazed how my blog had grown from 2 readers to 53 subscribed and I posted to thank all my lovely new bloggy friends from abroad, particularly Australia and New Zealand.

July saw my girls 3rd Birthday and a super family holiday to Dorset.  I came to terms that I am a good enough parent and made a breakthrough in my recovery from my miscarriage. JJ and I also had a funny little conversation about Sex.

By mid August I was at 79 readers and still enjoying the thrill that came with my blog growing more popular. I had a fun night away with some twin mummy friends and wrote a post in response to it entitled:  Tell me am I stuck up my own arse? I got 27 comments (my most ever at that point) on a post which took seconds to do and I really felt part of the blogging community.

I shared the tale of how I lost my smile in September and I also wrote a post entitled: Sold out about the fact that I was now taking sponsored posts and review opportunities and that all money I make from blogging goes to fantastic causes such as Compassion and Hope for the Nations.

In October JJ met the Child Psychologist to start the process to assess if he has a special need such as Aspergers. We are still none the wiser! I also asked the question 'Does my 3 year old really need a DS?'  Quite a few people had something to say on this!

November was a great bloggy month, my blog had really taken of, I was listed in the Tots 100 at position 117 and had about 160 followers.  All my posts got regular comments and I was enjoying Twitter.  My how things change. This month I wrote one of my hardest posts ever, about being a child bully.

The December the year ended beautifully.  I had the idea to start the new Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3 meme in January (which has been an overwhelming success - thank you). I held my first Multiples Mayhem carnival and had a very popular entry myself. I also invoke a bit of debate when I ask the question why Mums need to label themselves?

So 2010 - that was the year.....  sadly of the miscarriage but also the year that I achieved all my goals for the year, ie: falling in love with my hubbie again and spending time with my family.  It was also positively the year that blogging became a massive part of my life and I came to a comfortable place.

I am sat here today with 204 goggle followers, over 290 feed subscribers, a separate review blog, listed 51 in the Wikio parenting list, listed 117 in the TOTs 100 index, my facebook page has 118 fans and I am getting in excess of 550 page views some days.

I am happy! and I hope you are too.  Thanks for joining me on my journey, it means a lot to have you here by my side.  Mich x

Stop Whinging and Start Working!

I caught myself today....... and I am pleased to say I stopped myself! It is not pretty, nor grown up, nor necessary!  Therefore, I refuse to do it.  My new mantra for this year, for me and for anyone else out there who feels hard done by is to stop whinging and start working!  Work hard, real hard and you can get whatever your heart desires.  I truly believe that....  and if whatever you are after you can not seem to achieve then it was obviously not meant to be and you should just accept it with good grace!  Do not waste your energy on negative emotions, channel it into work.

Any idea what I am on about?  No, well let me enlighten you.

Sometimes I find myself feeling a little down, feeling a bit hard done by and as if I have had the rough part of the deal when it comes to blogging.  I start wondering why others get the invites to days out, why they get tons of toys or why they get more visitors than I do. Ever have those horrid little thoughts pop up - but their blog is crap? they sell themselves out to anyone? their attitude stinks!  my page rank is higher than theirs? blah, blah, blah.....

So today I had a good think about this and guess what I came up with?

Those with popular blogs or those who get all the invites and great reviews work hard at their blogs, bloody hard!  Some have been blogging a long time, some are great copy writers as they are/were journalists, some have great wit, some people have that special magnetic personality, some have started fab weekly memes that everyone can join in with, some start forums, some start conferences.  All these things do not come easy (well maybe the wit and personality are just part and parcel of them) they have been worked at over a period of time and yes there might have been the odd lucky break.  They may have known another popular blogger who recommended them, or tweeted them or something along those lines but that is life. Get over it!

What good will it do if I or anyone else for that matter (as I know there are tons of you out there who feel this same way, I have seen your grumbling tweets and posts) whinge and whine about the injustice of a handful of people being used again and again by the brands?  Absolutely nothing, we will just promote our negative selves and people will not want to visit us any more. I have no desire to become known as Moaning Mich!

So for this year (at least!) I pledge a serious lack of whinging and whining on Mummy From The Heart... and @michelletwinmum. Anyone else want to join me....?  Let's all work hard.  Promote others, spread that bloggy love, give people links, send readers their way and work, work, work.  Write great copy, keep it relevant and interesting and do not be scared to reveal yourself, the real self.  Not just a persona that you think a more popular blogger may like.  Use your own original voice and be proud of who you are. I am!

My name is Mich and I rock!

Who are you?
