Sore Tummy? How To Figure Out If You Have A Food Intolerance

Food intolerances are a common form of chronically sore tummies. They’re not as severe as food allergies, which is why most people are able to live comfortably with an intolerance or two. Symptoms tend to manifest as a soreness in your abdomen, often coupled with bloating, severe toilet habits (on either end of the spectrum) and gas. 

If you always have a sore tummy area, then there’s a chance you might have some sort of food intolerance. A recent study found that about a third of people have some sort of food sensitivity, so it’s remarkably common. Could this be the reason for your chronic pain? Here are a few helpful steps that help you figure out if you have a food intolerance or not. 


Step 1: Detox Your Gut

Kick things off with a gut detox that basically resets your entire digestive system. If you’re wondering how to detox your gut, then it’s a simple case of removing certain foods from your diet. You basically want to stick to a very relaxed whole foods diet without any processed foods at all. Some people like to fast for a day or two to help with the detoxification process, but the overall goal is to remove all irritants from your gut so you’ve got a clean slate to work with. 


Step 2: Introduce Foods Back Into Your Diet

Slowly but surely, you can introduce different foods back into your diet. If you have a suspicion that a certain thing is causing your stomach pain, then make it the first thing you add back to your normal eating regime. 


Step 3: Monitor Your Symptoms

After adding foods to your diet, keep a check on your general symptoms and gut feelings (no pun intended). How do you feel after eating, say, dairy products again? If you experienced no adverse symptoms during the detox, or even after adding other foods to your diet, but your stomach pain came back when you ate cheese, then make a note of it. 

This is a big sign that dairy products could be the source of your intolerance - and the same goes for any other food that triggers symptoms. Monitoring how you feel also helps you rule out certain foods or spot patterns. Hey, it may show you that you don’t necessarily have a particular food intolerance too. If your symptoms return when you eat a mixture of foods, maybe you’ve got a general digestive issue (like IBS) instead of an intolerance. 


Step 4: Visit A Medical Professional

Carrying out this dietary test helps you see how your body reacts with or without certain foods in your diet. You might suspect that you’ve got a food intolerance, so visit a doctor and tell them of your findings. They can perform additional tests or give you advice on how to deal with your intolerance. 

At the end of the day, food intolerances and sensitivities are common health issues you shouldn’t ignore. While not life-threatening, they can make your life a lot worse and leave you with chronic pain. Figuring out if you’re intolerant is the first step in treating your symptoms and living with one less thing to worry about.

How You Can Help Your Kids Embrace Their Hobbies

Childhood should be fun, and it should include hobbies that your kids engage in. Unfortunately, childhood hobbies and interests are less common now than they were before the advent of social media, as a lot of kids spend more time at a device than trying out different hobbies. As parents, our job is to teach kids to explore and experience more out of life, and this means introducing them to different hobbies.

This post will explore why hobbies are such an important part of childhood, as well as how we as parents can balance our view of our kids’ hobbies and, hopefully, help them get the most out of them.


Why Hobbies Are Important

One of the ways that children learn best is through having fun, and hobbies are meant to be fun. The best hobbies involve developing different skills that your kids might not learn while they’re in school. 

Hobbies also provide opportunities for children to develop as people and to find things out for themselves. They become their own person, rather than just an extension of their parents. Even if a hobby is short-lived, it’s beneficial. 

Another reason why it’s good for kids to have hobbies is that it can give them another opportunity to meet new people and make more friends. While it’s common for children to have just one or two good friends, it’s good for them to branch out as well so they can learn from each other.


Celebrating Their Interests

So, your kid has a hobby. What do you do about it? As a parent, it’s important to do what you can to support your child’s hobbies and interests by matching their enthusiasm. Even if the hobby isn’t something you’re actually interested in or even understand, you should still be there for your child.

Give them opportunities to express themselves and to excel. Talk to them about their hobbies. If they reach a milestone, find a way to celebrate it. If your kid enjoys a sport, for example, you can take them to games, help them learn to play, and even give them sports-themed stickers when they achieve something they’re proud of.


Knowing When to Step Back

But it’s important to have balance as a parent and to know when to step back and allow your child’s hobby to remain just that, their hobby. 

Some parents, especially if their child’s hobby matches their own interests or if their child shows some real talent, can take things too far. You might be trying to help your child, but if you keep on pushing them, you risk taking the fun out of the hobby. In some cases, kids lose interest because of this behaviour.

There’s also the fact that, for many kids, hobbies are temporary. It’s important not to invest too much time and money into something too soon, because some children might just move on to something else in a few months or even weeks. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing; it’s just part of being a kid.

This can be the most overwhelming thing of all, but it’s a fear that you can lessen by simply building your emergency contacts and keeping them to hand should you ever need them.

Obviously, your regular vet’s number should appear here, but this list doesn’t stop there. You may also want to save the number for in-home emergency vet care that could save your pet’s life in case of sudden seizures or other problems. With these numbers at hand, you can gain far more control over every potential situation.

3 - Remember to Enjoy Time With Your Pet

Most of us become pet owners because we seek the friendship and comfort that animals can bring, but that often falls by the wayside with a chronic diagnosis. Suddenly, you may spend more time thinking about how to protect your pet and perfect their medication routine than you do actually enjoying them.

So, our last piece of advice is to simply remember that your pet is a joyful, fun addition to your life, chronic diagnosis or not. While you should obviously follow your vet’s advice, it’s still vital to make time for everything from walks in the park to games of catch, and of course, plenty of cuddles on the sofa!

Layer With A Chunky Sweater

Put On An Oversized Blazer

Because they’re so close to the neck, they have an outsized effect on keeping you warm, even more so than gloves. What's more, you can wear a scarf in a variety of ways. It can even work indoors, complementing your outfit and making you feel like you’re a million bucks. Tying it differently allows you to explore your creative side and how it pairs with other accessories that you might have in your vanity.

Try A Plaid Miniskirt 


You might also want to experiment with a plaid miniskirt. These aren’t necessarily practical, but they feel seasonal, especially when worn in pumpkin patches. If you want to stay feeling warm, add some leggings. Make sure you’re wrapping yourself up nice and cosy so you don’t wind up freezing yourself and generally feeling awful whenever you go out.
