What to Wear When You Work From Home (Aside From Pyjamas)

{This is a collaborative post}

Now, more than ever, many people are working from home or via a remote location, which has sparked many discussions on workplace productivity, diversity and mental health. But where is the discussion about how working from home affects workplace fashion? Well, we are about to have it right here.

The number of people telecommuting or working remotely has grown by 159 per cent over the last 12 years, according to a study conducted by Global Workplace Analytics. This has provided both employees and employers with more flexibility in all aspects of business, and it has virtually eliminated workplace dress codes.

If you work from home, it may be easy to stay in your pyjamas all day, not brush your teeth until 5 p.m. or work from the comfort of your own bed. And statistically, while those who work remotely are more productive than their counterparts who work in an office, all of those factors above could lead to a loss in productivity, creativity and motivation while on the job. Working from home should be, first of all, comfortable for you in all aspects and if you are looking for remote opportunities in London, then you are in luck as there are plenty of opportunities available.

If you’re looking to revamp or improve your work from home wardrobe, consider this style advice and these hacks that will have you looking fabulous while feeling comfortable.

Tops Perfect for Remote Workers
If you work from home, you could stay in your favourite oversized t-shirt all day. But what happens when you have to video conference in or run to a quick meeting at a local coffee shop? That t-shirt isn’t going to cut it. Think about bold plus size blouses that will have you feeling motivated and on your A-game.
●      Flowy Tops –Of course, no one wants to be wearing a blazer while they work from home because that’s just simply not comfortable. But when you opt for a flowy blouse with unique embellishments, you’re pairing comfort with style, which should make you feel great about your remote look.
●      Opt for Black –Black will always be a sharp colour that can make even the most comfortable clothing look like it belongs in an office. Whether you choose a blouse made out of a soft, stretchy jersey material or a more structured blouse, if it’s black, you will feel put together and chic.
●      Printapalooza –If you still need a “pick me up” after your first cup of coffee in the morning, throw a blouse on that has a bold pattern or vibrant colour to wake you up. According to colour theory, warmer bright colours can positively impact your mood, and if you’re feeling confident and happy, you are more likely to be more productive.

How my Meg & Bee Handbag Helped me to be Bold Again

As a larger lady, shopping isn't always fun for me. I know many of the BBW (big beautiful women) or the body confidence, plus-size community would tell me there are loads of fabulous clothes out there, in far beyond my size. I should embrace who I am and how I look, and just shop to suit me and no-one else.

And I do. I shop for me but the reality is that I don't like being a size 22/24. I'm not healthy at this size. I need to lose weight and this will happen, but right now I'm a bit stagnant in that quest. I don't like my shape and for me, it doesn't feel flattering in clothes. I have a truly enormous stomach, like a great big air balloon on my front.

I'm not writing this for you to tell me I am OK as I am, or that I look good. I know I look presentable and sometimes I feel beautiful, but a lot of the time I just feel uncomfortable and like I'd like to slice my enormous belly off the front of me. Not in an unhealthy kind of way, just in a wishful... I'd look so much better and everyday tasks would be a lot easier kind of way.

I like to be comfortable and that is more important to me than being trendy or stylish, so I go for clothes in the same kind of cut and I like longer tops that cover most of my belly. I often fall back on black or navy, despite the fact that I love reds, pinks, bright blues and greens, as they are safe colours. Ones I don't have to stand out in.

Planning my Plus Size Autumn/ Winter Capsule Wardrobe with Fashion World

We've just entered into that odd time of year when the British weather isn't really sure what it is up to. Is it still summer, or has autumn arrived? No matter, we know that the autumn is well and truly on its way, and then quickly on its heels will be winter, so why not get your wardrobe kitted out in readiness for these cooler days and longer nights.

As a busy mum of three I'm all about being comfortable, whilst also looking pretty smart. I've never been a trainers and tracksuits kind of woman, and as I no longer work in an office I don't need suits anymore but I do still like to look presentable for my volunteering jobs and the odd night out with the girls or my husband.

What's a Capsule Wardrobe?
The other day I was watching a very interesting YouTube video from Charli at Curvy Girl Thin about why she moved to a capsule wardrobe and it got me thinking that really I already use one too. There are only around 30 items in my wardrobe that I wear, despite the other 200 that are in there! ekk So I am actually going to have a good clear out and move to the capsule wardrobe way!

Most people seem to agree that a capsule wardrobe is around 20 - 35 pieces of clothes, shoes and accessories. Due to the limited number of items that you have to choose from, you need to be smart in your choices and make sure you chose versatile items that will go with a number of your pieces.

It's useful to choose a colour theme to start with, mine currently is navy, jade, coral and cream. My girls laugh at me with the my summer wardrobe, as I have six different plain navy tops, all with varying sleeve lengths and different designs, these then go with my two pairs of patterned soft cotton trousers, long patterned cotton skirt, knee length denim skirt and jeans. It's not boring, its efficient and I believe I look good in them.
