Review & Giveaway | Leather ICON Valencia Footstool from Bean Bag Bazaar

Giveaway closed - Congratulations to @Faridah,Brooker, you are the lucky winner.

I told my kids the other day that my husband and I have reached middle-age and we're OK with it. In fact, we are embracing it; I treated myself to a new tapestry and he got some slippers and a footstool, so he can watch his favourite boxset in comfort and with toasty warm toes! It really is the little things in life that can make a difference.

I wanted to share with you the footstool that he got, as it is totally different to how I imagined but he is loving it, and yes I admit it, I have used it a few times in the day when he is at work and I'm doing a bit of work on the sofa.

We were sent the ICON Valencia real leather footstool from Bean Bag Bazaar, which is currently on sale for £79.99, this is great value for a quality leather product. The footstool is fairly small and light-as-a-feather as it is filled with beans. The dimensions are 27cm height and 43cm both width and depth.

Review & Giveaway | Gorgeous Faux Fur Beanbag from Beanbag Bazaar

As the kids get bigger it feels as if my sofas are shrinking. There was a time when all five us of could happily sit on the one 3 seater sofa and watch a movie. Now we struggle to accommodate just four of us (the teen mostly likes to disappear to his bedroom, when his sisters are about) on two sofas.

We don't have the biggest lounge and we're quite restricted on where our TV can go due to a large fireplace, door and double aspect windows, so there is no easy solution by buying a complementary chair.

Thankfully the answer has come in the form of am ICON large faux fur beanbag; big enough and comfy enough to seat even the biggest adult. The beanbag is 70cm height, 84cm width and 84cm depth. The super soft faux fur feels gorgeous to the touch and I think it looks very luxurious. The outer fur fabric is a modacrylic, acrylic, polyester mix and the base is 100% polyester. Of course it meets all the relevant fire safety standards.

The inner is filled with EPS polystyrene balls and I was pleased to see that by opening the outer zip, you're not going to send balls everywhere, there is an inner zip too before you access them and this is fabulous child proofing. Talking of kids, due to the nature or the faux fur fabric it does warn there can be some shedding, but we've had it a week now and been using it every day and I've not seen any evidence of that.

Giveaway: Tommee Tippee Complete Feeding Set, worth £109

***This giveaway is now closed. Massive congratulations to Tracy K for being the luck inner. I've sent you an email, please respond within 14 days with your address and claim your prize. Thanks, Mich x ***

Look at that lovely bundle right there. If you are expecting a babe then this is perfect for you or maybe it is your daughter, your friend or a work colleague. Just think how popular you'd be if you won this amazing complete feeding set from Tommee Tippee and gave it to them as a new baby gift.

Best. Friend. Ever! Right?

So what is included with this amazing giveaway?

Well, everything  you see in the picture above and that is
  • Electric Steam Steriliser,
  • Travel Steriliser,
  • Electric Bottle and Food Warmer,
  • 3 x 150ml Closer to Nature Easi-Vent Bottles with Slow Flow Teats,
  • 5 x 260ml Closer to Nature Easi-Vent Bottles with Slow Flow Teats,
  • 2 x Medium Flow Teats – 3-6m,
  • 2 x Fast Flow Teats – 6m+,
  • 4 x Milk Storage Lids,

  • 2 x Insulated Bottle Bags,
  • 1 x Bottle and Teat Brush
This really is the full works and the absolute beauty is that this set will suit you whether you want to exclusively bottle feed or mixed feed. I breastfed my babes first and then expressed and introduced a bottle so my husband could do the 10pm feed and I could sleep. It was bliss and in those early colicky days it meant that I only got a six hour stretch of sleep and personally I found that if I got six straight hours I could tackle anything!

You'll notice in the picture below that the teats in the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature range have patented ridges near the teat so that it moves in a way more closely aligned to how the babe would move a breast.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on here to share either your favourite memory of a time with your own baby or someone else's.

Win a Family Ticket for Babe - The Sheep-Pig Live on Tour

**Closed**  Sadly Karl B did not contact me to claim the prize. So I have drawn again and massive congratulations to Jacqueline J who won this giveaway. I've sent you an email, please respond within 14 days to claim the prize as per the T&C's. Thanks, Mich

I don't know about you but I really love live theatre: I would go up to the West End each month if I could but as I like nice seats it has come to a point where we can barely afford it nowadays and that makes me sad.

I realise I've been missing a trick though as many of the best shows are not just limited to London West End they can be in more provincial theatres or even starting in London and then touring the country. I need to widen my horizons and I realised this when my husband gave me ticket for Dirty Dancing for Christmas. Not Dirty Dancing in the West End that might have cost us £120 for the two of us but Dirty Dancing at Eastbourne that costs just £40 for the two of us - result! I can't wait to go.

Babe, The Sheep-Pig
I'll tell you what else I can't wait to see at the theatre in Eastbourne and that is Babe, The Sheep-Pig, it looks so very clever. This new production is adapted from Dick King-Smith’s much-loved children’s novel which inspired the Oscar-winning 1995 film, and will feature stunning puppetry from the teams behind War Horse and Cirque de Soleil, bringing the characters of Hogget’s Farm to life on stage.

There is also an original score and an utterly charming ‘baa-ber sheep’ quartet. Babe, the Sheep-Pig tells the story of the lovable Babe in a heart-warming tale of friendship, adventure and bravery.

Thorpe Park Annual Pass Sale & WIN an Annual Family Pass

I've written before how Thorpe Park holds fond memories for me. I grew up just 20 minutes away and it was somewhere we visited often, especially as in those days you could gain entry to the park pretty cheap if you just went for the last hour or so. It was a very different place back then though with low-tech rides and minimal thrills.

Nowadays Thorpe Park has earned itself the reputation as the thrill seekers paradise in the UK. it boasts over 30 thrilling rides and attractions including some of the scariest about like Stealth, Nemesis Inferno and SAW - the ride.

Review and Giveaway - Chatty Feet BadAss Sock Collection

Last year I received some Chatty Feet socks to review and I love them.  In fact everyone I meet and who sees them loves them. I lost two pairs of mine to my Mum, I bought a load for Christmas gifts to give to people and my son JJ wears nothing else.  He has four pairs and they go in and out of the wash. I can happily tell you that JJ's socks are still in great condition and at this stage I might have expected some holes to be appearing or parts to be wearing thin but nothing after eight months of constant wear, so this brand definitely gets my thumbs up. You can check out my full review by clicking here.

I had to smile when I received my Chatty Feet newsletter recently and saw they have launched a new four pair gift box set, called the BadAss sock collection.  Now I'm not so sure about the name, I probably shouldn't be encouraging anyone I know to be a badass but I just had to get these..

The set contains four pairs of socks, each with their own take on the main character from a well known action film - we have the Sockfather, Mambo, Toeminator and Karate Feet. The set is £30, which is more than I would normally pay for socks but given that I know how well they last I'm actually OK with paying this amount and it includes standard delivery cost.

I'm keeping these socks hidden away, either for JJ's birthday or maybe even Christmas but I got my husband to model Mambo for me and he had great fun curling his toes and making him look more mean. As you can see the character is on the bottom and top of the sock and they can much amusement. The set is available in shoe size 4 - 8 or otherwise 9-12, so these socks are aimed at adults.

GIVEAWAY

I have a BadAss collection set of 4 pairs of socks to giveaway to one lucky reader. All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me which BadAss character would you be and what you would fight for. Please use the Rafflecopter widget so I know how I can contact you if you are the lucky winner.

Good luck and make sure you check out the T&C's for the giveaway.

Thanks a lot, Mich x

Yep you read that right, they can fold right up and go in your handbag with minimal fuss and taking up hardly any space. Buying Beautiful Ethical Gifts and a Super #Giveaway

When I was away in the states last month I got to meet some amazing people who are not content to just sit back and watch other people pull themselves out of poverty, they want to be part of that process and to use the knowledge they have to help these entrepreneurs in developing countries be able to access the consumers out there and bring their products to the market.

Talking of To The Market this is the name of a fairly new social venture founded by Jane Mosbacher Morris who has sourced some beautiful goods to sell to the US market via pop-up shops and her website. I love this site, not only is Jane and her small team interested in bringing us wonderful goods they are also interested in giving all their artisans a channel to share their stories and be heard, so powerful. Just take a look at a few of the products -

Unfortunately for my UK readers To the Market is set up to sell in the US and Canada. Jane has said if you see something you fancy email them and they will investigate postage but of course realistically that will make a cost difference.

I've been looking out for UK companies doing the same kind of job as To the Market and I came across SWAGs World (Simply Women and Girls Sustainable World),  who appear to be offering a smaller range but still with some beautiful items none the less. Their mission is to offer a global marketplace of affordable, accessible products for socially responsible consumers; an alternative to mass-produced, throwaway fashion, poor working conditions and undervalued labour. They take pride in the quality, craftsmanship and uniqueness of each product they sell, and believe it to be a reflection of the skill and passion that has created it.

Their harmony dolls are particularly gorgeous and of course super for allowing young children to think about the value of difference and the harmony we should all be living in. I've been lucky enough to be sent one to giveaway to one lucky reader. My 7 year old twins were looking at it this morning and they begged me to keep it, we won't be! lol

Not content with just giving you a Harmony doll, I thought I would also offer you a couple of brand new items that I have at home.  A stunning Genet scarf from FashionABLE who are another wonderful not-for-profit that I adore and also a Kate Spade on Purpose gold bracelet. In this last year Kate Spade have introduced a new program called On purpose and they have been working with 150 women in Rwanda on an initiative which seeks to transform their community of 20,000.

So here is what you will win in this giveaway -

Guinness World Records Book 2014 - Review & Giveaway

Big congratulations to Taylor Jones and Kate Jordan, you are the lucky winners. I have emailed you.  Please send me your addresses so that GWR can send the book direct to you. Many thanks, Mich x

You might have seen that a couple of weeks ago my family visited the head office of Guinness World Records in London. We had a fabulous day and one of the highlights was that the kids were each sent home with a new copy of the Guinness World Records 2014 book (GWR). I'll be honest, I did not think that my 6 year old twin girls would be that interested in the book and I thought I'd be able to syphon them off into the future gifts box!  How wrong was I? Apparently this book rocks for girls and boys alike and at age 6 with limited reading skills it is still fantastic fun.

So now I have three little GWR fans in our house and it makes me smile to walk into their rooms before bed and find each one of them reading the book and admiring all the big glossy photos. I think the GWR 2014 book is a really super gift for a child, not only are you providing them with entertainment but it is also educational and at school they encourage children to read all kinds of books not just straightforward fiction ones.

There is so much in this book, both fabulous quality and interesting photos and facts to blow your mind. There are some really bizarre snippets a whole ton of cuteness. Miss M was thrilled to see her favourite band ONE Direction in there and has been asking me ever since, if she can do twitter with them!

The books pages are all thick and glossy and it has a hard cover so it will last. JJ's book from 2013 was so well read and it still looks like brand new, so they stand the test of time. The book has an RRP of £20.00 but you can easily buy it in major supermarkets and book shops for £10.00 and I see it is £8.00 on Amazon.

When we were at head office Craig Glenday, the editor of the GWR book showed us the augmented reality app that you can download for free onto your ios or android product. It is super, I think it really adds to the reading experience, rather than detracting from it. Children can engage even more with the book by seeing life-size how tall the shortest lady is or charming a snake out of its basket, or maybe they want to climb Mount Everest and see what the view would look like. It can be a bit tricky at first to make sure you keep the book in the screenshot from your phone or tablet but with practise even my 6 year old's could do it.

I'll happily be buying copies of the GRW 2014 to give to my nephews as Christmas presents. It is a super book for kids and to be truthful, adults too if they like facts and figures.

I have 2 copies of the Guinness World Records 2014 book available for giveaway, would you like to win one?

Fancy winning a beautiful fingerprint personalised keyring for Fathers Day?

It’s amazing how quick time flies, isn’t it? I can’t believe we are now in May, where has this year gone to? In no time at all Fathers Day will be upon us. My husband did such a great job of spoiling me on Mothers Day that I need to make sure he enjoys his special day.

Dh is not a man who is interested in material things and gifts that cost lots of money. He is much happier with a gift that contains thought and especially if it involves his beloved children. With this in mind it was really fortunate that Little Pinkies contacted me and asked if I’d like to try out one of their products. I showed my children the keyring and they jumped at the chance to make Daddy a special gift.

I have found my contact with Fiona at Little Pinkies to be friendly and efficient. I was promptly sent three sets of inkless wipes to take prints from my children to be used on the keyring. We had the choice to take finger, foot or hand prints from the kids and I took hand prints from each of them, but I could have mixed and matched. Different jewellery pieces are ideal for differing amounts of prints to be put on. The full jewellery range works with a single print, most will take two and three are just suitable for the keyring like we had.

I was a bit worried about using the wipes, I know they are called ‘inkless wipes’ but for some reason I had thought they would be messy and difficult to use. I could not have been more wrong, it was simple and mess free to actually take the prints and once taken I put them in the pre-paid envelope and sent them back.

Just a week later the beautiful personalised keyring arrived through the door. The first thing I noticed was the plush box that the keyring is presented in. First impressions are certainly good. The actual keyring itself was well polished and feels really sturdy and solid. It is silver-plated to ensure that it withstands the knocks that a keyring invariably gets, especially in my husbands trouser pockets with all his coins.

I was a little surprised to find that the actual hand prints feel rough to the touch, rather than perfectly smooth. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t be snagging things on them or anything but you can just feel the indentations and where the print has cut in it gives the print a kind of pinky glow, which I thinks looks attractive. On the other side we had a message engraved for dh and you can choose what you wish to say, if anything,

In terms of the actual ring that you will place your keys on, it feels strong and the ball that screws on and off the end is a good tight fit to ensure your keys stay secure.

The normal cost of the keyring if you want one print on it is £45 and then each extra print costs £10 but at the moment there is a special Fathers Day sale at Little Pinkies and you can buy one for just £25 with one print, that is a fantastic reduction. The cufflinks are also reduced.

Look how fabulous the key ring looks with just 2 prints, and you can have the names under them too - very cute!

Good news, you can win a keyring the same as ours with up to 2 prints

Perhaps there is someone in your life who you would like to give a keyring to for Fathers Day, if yes then enter the competition now.

Please note:  to ensure you receive your keyring by Fathers Day you need to have completed your order (including sending back the prints to Little Pinkies) by 31 May 2013.

Best of luck to you!  Mich x

Disclosure: I received one keyring free of charge for the purposes of this review. I was not instructed what to write and I remain honest.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Win £50 voucher for Letterbox UK

Congratulations to Liz Denial, you are the lucky winner. I have emailed you.  Thanks, Mich x

I find it delightful how children have all these ideas of what they want to be when they grow up. The smallest amounts of time make such a difference.  I recall JJ when he was 3 years wanting to be an underground train driver like 'Underground Ernie' and then wanting to indulge his love of food by being an ice cream man when  he was about 6 years!  Now at the wise old age of 9 years he has decided that the right career for him is as an IT Manager. A very sensible for choice for one so young -we'll see how that pans out!

What about you, what did you desire as a youngster?  I know I thought I might be an artist at one stage, I pondered a career in policing and then fairly young I set my heart on a career in hotels, which was what I did for a number of years.

The gorgeous online toy retailer Letterbox are launching a new range on 1st May - the 'When I grow up' range and it is all about cultivating those early ambitions and letting the little ones act it out and have fun. Make believe and pretending to be an adult are such delights for children.  I adore listening to my twins playing schools and hearing their version of how a teacher should act.

Why not enter the giveaway to win a £50 online voucher for Letterbox and free UK P&P too?

The LETTERBOX Collection is full of inspirational ideas for children of all ages. From extra special personalised gifts and traditional children’s toys, to outdoor games and educational books, LETTERBOX is bursting with over 1500 bright ideas, many of which are unique designs you won't find anywhere else. And because they know that what your children play with becomes a huge part of their lives, everything in the range is designed to aid development and learning, right through from babies to pre-teens! A unique mixture of fun, creative and educational products providing everything busy parents need for their active children all year round!

Butlins - Fantastic family holiday or dodgy old camp?

So I say to you Butlins and you think.......?

Go on be honest, what images does the word Butlins conjure up for you?

I asked that question to about 15 different friends and work colleagues this week and only one of them had actually visited Butlins in the last few years.  I was not at all surprised to find people talking about Hi-de-hi , the sit-com that aired back in the 1980's (Oh how I loved that program as a kid).  There was also lots of mentions of red coats, old wooden chalets and bingo.

OK, I can honestly say these people have the wrong idea.

JJ quite a few years back when he was still excited to meet Billy the Butlins Bear

My family have been to Butlins at least once a year since 2004, some years it has been as many as 3 times. As the children have grown older and we have to go in the school holidays it has become more expensive and as such we have had to cut down, but in the early days when we just had JJ and he was under 2 we stayed in Deluxe accommodation, half board for a 5 day/ 4 night break for under £200 for us all.  Butlins is superb value for families with young children who are happy to stay term-time.

Then here we are nearly 10 years later and I just did a quick search for a half board room from 20th May (so the weather should be nice) in Skegness for 4 nights for two adults and a one year old and it is just £213.34.  Fantastic value.  'What do you get included with that along with your food and accommodation?' I hear you ask. Everything you could want to be honest - splash waterworld, children's funfair, adult funfair, children's activities like puppet shows, softplay, evening entertainment - the list goes on and on.

'Ahh but what is the accommodation like?' I hear you shouting now, 'there must be a catch' you think to yourself.  But no, there is no catch, what you see is what you pay and you get all the fun included. I won't lie to you, some of the accommodation is basic, if you book a standard room you will not get anything glossy but it does what you need it to, it is clean, the beds are comfy, there is an equipped kitchen (if you have booked an apartment) and there is a TV.

We have stayed in standard, silver and deluxe accommodation over the years and I have been perfectly happy with them all.  Different times have demanded different things.  One type of accommodation I have never yet stayed in are the hotels at Bognor Regis, there are three of them nowadays, all just a bit different from each other.

I'm very excited to say that next May in the half term my family will be staying in the newest hotel at Bognor Regis, the Wave Hotel. This is very exciting as we are staying there as Butlins Ambassadors and we will be testing out the hotel and the rest of Butlins fully.  Please do not be fooled into thinking that because I am a regular Butlins customer that I won't be as honest as possible. I will be. I always believe that when I am given the responsibility for reviewing something it is extra important to be as honest as possible.  You will find a number of reviews on my Honest Mummy Reviews blog which demonstrate this point quite well. I will always be balanced and fair, giving a full and honest account of what we have seen and experienced.

Take a peek at the hotels at Bognor Regis -

I look forward to sharing my findings with you early next summer, for now why don't you take a peek on their site and see if there is anything that interests you.  I just did some random accommodation searches on the site and found that many breaks are better than half price in March next year.  I got a 5 day holiday up for £250.63 half board for a family of 4. That works out at just £15.62 per person per night - how can you quibble with that???

Leave me a comment and let me know your experience of Butlins, good or bad....

Butlins Goodies - Stocking Fillers Giveaway
As a little extra, I thought I would give away some nice Butlins goodies that have been sat in my cupboard since I won them at BritMums Live in June. My kids have too much already!

Disclaimer:  I am being provided with a break for 6 people next May, half board in the Wave Hotel for the purposes of honestly reviewing Butlins and its facilities.  I have not been instructed what to write and as always I'll remain honest.

Giveaway - £25 Seeds from Seed Parade

Congratulations to the lucky winner @7hippopotamus.  Please DM or email me with your email and address for me to pass to Seed Parade.  Thanks, Mich x

Last year for the first time we decided to have a go at growing our own produce and I am pleased to say it went well.  We discovered that fine green beans, potatoes and carrots are all easy to grow but that corn on the cob did not really flourish in our garden.

I find it thrilling that these manky old potatoes that got forgotten in a bag and grew shoots could then be planted and grow until we dug them up and they were the most delicious salad potatoes ever.

Bloggy Reasons to be Cheerful - Year 2, Week 3 #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

Morning cheerful bunch. How is everyone?  Doing really well I hope and managing to stay cheerful despite the bitterly icy and then rainy weather!

This week I am feeling grateful for all things blogging. I truly believe that my life has been enriched in the last few years by having my blog and making loads of super new friends. Here are just a few of the blogging things that have happened in the last couple of weeks that have made me reflect on my gratitude for my blog and the whole parenting blogsphere.

  1. I am blogger of the month over at the Tots100 and that feels like a really special privilege. Also, Sally said such nice things about me. I just went over to get the URL to link to and found more comments on there I had not read and you know what? I nearly had a snivel.  People had said such nice things, this is what makes blogging rock!

Review & Giveaway: Morphy Richards Meno Milk Frother

How do you feel about cappuccino or a nice frothy cup of hot chocolate just like you get in Costa?  Yep, I love them too and therefore when I received the new Meno milk frother from Morphy Richards I was pretty chuffed.

This mini kettle (the Meno) has made friends with it's big brother in my kitchen and is sitting along side him making me divine drinks each evening.  For I am being strict with myself and just having them on an evening.  It could be quite dangerous (without even having to mention the word addictive), if I start to drink milky drinks all the time I know that a tubby like me will pile on the pounds!

The Meno milk frother is capable of making hot frothy milk for things like cappuccino and hot chocolate (or babyccino as my kids love) as well as cold milkshake drinks. It is very easy to use, pour in the milk, twist and lock the lid and press the button, a couple of minutes later and you have perfect forth, be it hot or cold.  I have to say the heat and froth function is my favourite.  Just take a look at this picture, the froth is great, it stays really firm and makes for a fabulous drink.

I have to say that in all honesty I was not as impressed with the milkshake function which froths the cold drink.  It was not as frothy and bubbly as I might have expected but was still good. Actually JJ told me it was excellent, so what do I know?

Once you have used the milk frother it is actually really easy to clean.  None of it can be immersed in water so it is just a case of washing with hot water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth.  It took seconds literally.

The Milk Frother retails at £59.99 from Morphy Richards but if you fancy buying one then you can have a 30% discount when you use the following code MFH6030 and purchase direct from the Morphy Richards site prior to 6th May 2011.  Just enter the code at the check out stage.

That takes the cost down to £42.00 and if you consider that the hot froth gives you a drink as good as you get when you buy from Costa or such, it will have paid for itself in no time!!

One last thing, those lovely people at Morphy Richards have given me one of these super kitchen gadgets for one lucky reader to win.

This is a review post.  I was sent this item free of charge for the purposes of this review.  I was not instructed what to write and I remain honest.

I am Giving away a Family Ticket to Peppa Pig World @ Paultons Park

Peppa Pig can do no wrong in this house!  If I said to you that I have twin 3.5 year old girls that may be saying enough!  They love Peppa Pig, they love everything about her, so much so that we have the lunchboxes and cups for school, the pyjamas which Mummy has to wash far too often as others are turned down, the day clothes, the play sets, the soft toys, the snuggle pillows, the duvet sets, the books, the DVD's....  Oh my goodness, I had no idea we were that obsessed with Peppa Pig in this house!  You see the thing is, it is not just the girls, I love Peppa too.  It is one of the few kiddie programmes that I will sit and watch and even JJ is not too cool, at age 7 he is still happy to watch it, 'just for the girls though Mum!'.  Yes of course, my darling.

So when I heard that Paultons Park were opening a Peppa Pig World I did a small jump in the air.  Have I mentioned this to the little ones - no way!  I want my sleep for the next few weeks. Peppa Pig World will open on 9th April this year, there will be 7 new rides to enjoy as well as fun animated attractions, indoor and outdoor play areas and a Peppa-themed toy shop, so take your pennies. My girls will be super excited to hear that there will be a Muddy Puddles water play area and JJ will enjoy Daddy Pig’s Big Tummy Café.

I mentioned this new opening the other day to a group of Mummy friends and the general consensus was that we will all be visiting this year.  Isn't it funny how once you have kids your enjoyment is gained through their delight. In the old days I might have got excited about a trip to Paris and nowadays it is knowing my kids will have a ball at Peppa Pig World. How times change!  So, if like me you are excited, you better book your tickets now.

Check out the dedicated Peppa Pig World website at www.peppapigworld.co.uk to ensure you don’t miss out. The website is packed with fun activities to entertain your children such as maps of the park and pictures of its rides to get them really excited!

Now I did mention giving away a family ticket, didn't I?

You can win a ticket for a family of four to go to Peppa Pig World on their golden ticket day on Saturday 2nd April 2011.  You will feel like a star, as this event is a week before the park opens to the general public, you can enjoy all the fun on this special day.

  • The winner will be chosen by random number generator
  • There is no cash or prize alternative

  • Your ticket will be organised by the PR company
Good Luck!

Ohh and just to mention that Paultons Park, the family theme park in Hampshire (Where Peppa Pig World is) has 60 plus rides and attractions. Thrills and excitement are the order of the day! Paultons Park is open for February half-term from Sunday 20th February 2011 and daily from Friday 1st April 2011... Check the website for full details and daily closing times which vary.

My family is being offered complimentary entrance to Peppa Pig World and as such I am able to hold this giveaway.  Once I have attended the event in late March I will write an honest review of Peppa Pig World and publish it here at MFTH...

Congratulations to @GKMummy, you are the lucky winner.  Please either email or DM me your address details to pass on to the PR.  Many thanks, Mich x

Mummy@Bodfortea Shares her Experience of Running Giveaways

We are almost at the end of New Bloggers Fortnight now but still a couple of goodies to fit in!  Following on from my post yesterday about writing reviews for your blog Mummy@bodfortea talks about running giveaways on her blog. I'll let her introduce herself -
Hi there, mummy@bodfortea here. I'm a stay-at-home Mum to my 18 month old darling daughter (known as DD) and wife to an overworked consultant husband who is often away more than he is at home. We currently split our time between the UK, where we have a home, and China where OH is doing some work. Yes China. I know, I must be mad. I'm a self-confessed control freak and frustrated writer and I blog to stay sane. Sometimes I wonder if it's working :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Michelle asked me to write a post for the New Bloggers Fortnight, I looked behind me first and then pointed to my chest, "Who me?", I asked. Sometimes I still can't believe that my little blog is up and running, let alone with almost 40 lovely followers and an 'explorer' Klout score. Since I launched Bod for tea four weeks ago I've loved every moment of joining the blogging community. I've made some great new virtual friends and had so much support both from both fellow newbies and more experienced bloggers such as Michelle.
So what advice can I give to other newbie bloggers like myself? Well, with my first two giveaways currently running on my blog I thought I'd share my experiences of hosting them.
When I was first contacted by a brand to run a giveaway, my initial reaction (wheeeee!) quickly dissolved into anxiety - I didn't know the first thing about running a giveaway online! So I turned to my first source for all things helpful; British Mummy Bloggers. I posted a question on the newbies group and soon had loads of advice and links to check out. Here's some of they key things I learned from this and from subsequently hosting my own giveaway:

The best advice I received was to take a look at the giveaways hosted by bloggers I admire such as Not Super Just Mum and Second Time Mummy. That gave me the confidence to go for it and some good ideas for how to craft my post.
Another key learning was not making entrants jump through too many hoops to enter the giveaway. People have a finite attention span online (or is that just me?) so make it quick and easy for them to enter and then, hopefully, move on to read the other posts in your archive.
If you build it, they won't necessarily come. If no-one reads your posts it may hurt, but if no-one enters your giveaway the PR or brand may think twice before contacting you again. So do publicise it. I'm by no means expert at this (my second giveaway only has one entrant so far!), but I've used Twitter, the British Mummy Bloggers Competitions group, the Prizefinder competitions site and Money Saving Expert.
Do add clear terms and conditions to your giveaway and disclose where the prizes came from.

When you add a new post to your blog after your giveaway is live, add a link to it in your sidebar to attract readers from your new post.
And finally, I think it's an easy trap to fall into to run giveaways all the time, and I'm conscious here that I've got two running consecutively myself at the moment. They can bring you lots of traffic, but a lot of it is fleeting, with people popping in to enter and never coming back. Real followers that come back time and again and comment on your posts are gained by sharing your story, whatever it may be, through posting. So go for it, host a giveaway, and I'll probably enter! But do keep posting too.

Thanks Mummy@bodfortea, you raise a good point at the end there.  Keep a balance on your blog, some giveaways or paid content but loads of real life 'you' stuff, that was what attracted your readership in the first place.

Fancy a Good Night In?

I fancied doing a giveaway on my blog, a really simple one.  Not because I have been given anything to review and giveaway but just one that says thanks to all my wonderful readers.

Many of you will know I opened my blog to public viewing in January 2010 and then dissapeared off again until April 2010 when I started to blog more seriously and instead of constant whinging about my battles with food my blog became a personal rambling of everything that relates to my family and I.  I feel very proud of the way my blog has grown in the last year and I feel very humbled by all the support I receive from many wonderful readers. January is the month I believe to be my Bloggerversary and this as far as I am concerned is my first one, as before that the blog was just an online dairy for me and no one else!

So, I felt it was time for one of you to enjoy a nice night in!  Here's what I would like to give you -

  • Next luxury foot pampering set
  • New pair of white towelling slippers for those gorgeous looking feet
  • Avon pale pink hail polish for after the foot pamper
  • Annabel Giles book - Defrosting of Charlotte Smith to read in the bath
  • Goodie bag of GU chocolate truffles and liquid caramel truffles
  • Gorgeous pale blue fabric covered journal for writing your precious thoughts
These are all new items that have either been given to me or bought by me but have never been used and have been sat in my gift cupboard for a while.  What better way to use them than to pass them onto a lovely reader who is more indulgent than I and will enjoy them ....

How to enter -
  • Chances are you already follow me, but I would love some new friends on networked blogs, so use the gadget on the right --> to follow, pretty please
  • Leave me a comment below with an email/ twitter ID so I can contact you if you win
  • If you fancy an extra entry then tweet '@Michelletwinmum would like you to have a fab night in #giveaway  http://tinyurl.com/66x3h3d #win'
Terms and Conditions -
  • The giveaway will close at 12 noon Thursday 3 February 2011
  • The giveaway is open to those in the UK or Ireland
  • The winner will be chosen at random by my little man JJ (he wants to get involved, bless!)
  • There is no cash or prize alternative

Good Luck

Congratulations to @wannabefoodie76 You are the lucky winner.  Please email or DM me your address and I get the package sent out to you next Wednesday.  Mich x
