Cheerful at Butlins #R2BC week 22, year 3

Happy Thursday, I hope you are having a super great week.  I certainly am, we are at Butlins this week undertaking a review whilst my Dad packs up our house ready for our impending move. the best of both worlds, hey?

I'll share a few pictures of cheery times here at Butlins, Bognor Regis -

Blogger of the week
This week I am giving a shout-out to Sarah who blogs over at Ups, Downs, Smiles and Frowns.  I love the name of her blog, it is so true of the way it is in normal, everyday family life. Sarah is one of the newer joiners in this linky but since she started she has been very faithful and joins us every week (I just had a peek and actually her first #R2BC post was June 2012, so that is practically a year now). I also find her one of those great people who nip round and comment on lots of posts. Pop over and see Sarah to say hi and you can read all about her love for her kids.
Grab a new badge please
Don't forget my URL has changed so please can you grab a new #R2BC blog badge please or if you happen to link to me (no pressure!) then the URL nowadays is http://www.mummyfromtheheart.com.

Write a cheery post, link up, add in the blog hop code and visit a few other blogs and say hi. I really hope to be able to get round to everyone this weekend when I'm home. Sorry I did not manage it last weekend, things are pretty crazy at the moment with everything going on.

Wishing you a super week ahead, be blessed. Mich x

Photo story: A day in the life of 5 year old Miss E at Butlins, Bognor

When you are five Butlins is possibly the best place in the world that your family can take you to, or so Miss E informs me.

Yesterday it rained the whole day and as such it gave us a superb opportunity to try out what Butlins can offer on a rainy day indoors.

Here is the day through the eyes of my little lady, Miss E -

Wake up in your bunk bed and invite your twin sister up and put on 'The Little Mermaid' on the DVD
at the end of your bed.

Time for breakfast - pancakes of course!

Head to the first club session for 5 + year olds and decorate treasure chests and make pirate masks

Relax for a bit and watch Angelina Ballerina do a few dance moves in the Skyline pavillion, a short time on the soft play as well and then watch Billy Bear read a story

Join in with a treasure hunt, some games and face painting at the next club session of the day

Can we have a treat mummy? £1 buys some candy floss for a treat

The afternoon involved a swim and a relax in our hotel room (but we don't have pictures of those!)

Early dinner in the restaurant - eat as many courses as you fancy!

A quick game on the Wii dance in the Wave hotel games port while we wait for it to be time
for the evening shows to start

Watch the Seasame Street show in Centre Stage - a super family watch, but woe very busy!

Show over, it is now time to end the evening with a dance with the Red Coats to songs
like 'Cha Cha Slide' and 'Saturday Night'

Fall into bed at 9pm and be fast asleep within a few minutes - lets do it all again tomorrow mummy.....

Disclosure: I am a Butlins Ambassador and e have been provided with a complimentary 4 night break for six of us for the purposes of honestly reviewing our holiday.

Fantasy Vs Reality

Our local beach
You know what? I'm not particularly enthralled with this moving house business, it takes over your life.  I suppose moving house might not be so bad if it was not also that I am giving up work, dh is starting a new job, the kids are starting new schools and we are moving area all just three weeks after a family holiday!

My head is thumping and I just keep pushing all the thoughts and emotions back down and trying not to become overwhelmed. Logic tells me all will be fine, I'm really organised and I plan well for things like this but at the moment I'm wishing the days away on one hand (I so need to be finished work), then on the other I don't want to leave here and I'm starting to feel really sad that we are moving.

I know this move is a good thing, I know it is a God thing too. I also know that often 'God things' are scary and make us feel like we are out of our depth, but that's the really special part - when God steps in and takes over, as you know you could not have possibly done all that yourself.

I was cleaning my house the other day and walking from room to room feeling really emotional   I'm leaving my beautiful house I kept thinking. Dh and I had our kids here, they have never lived anywhere else. I keep trying to ignore these feelings and when the tears pique, I push them back but I wonder if I need to let them flow and be over with it. It is a little sad to move on but it is a lot wonderful. I'm very aware that I need to grow up as far as my emotions are concerned, I don't seem to be able to express them or deal with them very well. Maybe a good old cry is the way to go?

In the years we have been together Dh and I have owned three houses and lived in numerous other houses too, so this should not be such a big deal for us...... but it is. This is our home and realising that I felt a little better, I love this house because it is where we are all together and we feel safe - it is Home.  The new house will be a home too and we will all love and live there together and yes it will take a while to get it really comfy but that is half the fun, building it all again and making it just as we want it. Home is where the heart is they say and all of us are going there so it automatically transfers over.

Go back a month and I was so excited about this move, I literally wanted to flip a switch and the time to be here and now the time is creeping forward and I feel drained and emotional. Have I been building a fantasy about what our new life will be like - staying home, time to develop a business for me, more family time, new house, countryside location etc etc?

But no I think I am keeping reality firmly in view, recently I have been questioning if I have been wearing rose tinted glasses in regard to our move. Will being a stay at home mum be all is is cracked up to be? Will I miss being away from all the people I know so well? Will the children settle OK? Will we like living in a house that we do not own? Will we be able to change our lifestyle to adapt to a lot less disposable income? Will dh enjoy his new job? and on and on.....  all these questions buzzing in my head and making it ache.

Who knows what the future holds? Only God and I trust in Him, so really all I need to do is keep my eyes raised and firmly on the Lord rather than in the mundaneness of every day life and the operational challenges of moving a family of five.

Anyway enough introspection, I need to head off and take some practical measures - pack a few boxes or send out some change of address - you know the type of thing!

Our week ahead at Butlins - so excited!

Have I ever told you that I love Butlins?

I'm sure I have and no it is not because I've been paid to love Butlins, nor is it because I've been picked to be an ambassador and to review a holiday there (although this is true and I'm super chuffed about this).

I'll tell you why it is - it's because my family are loyal customers and we always have an amazing time. I'll be honest with you, not everything has been perfect and yes it can cost more than some other holidays but it sure is fun and they know how to look after their customers.

I've written before about Butlins and how I feel about it - quite a few times in fact, have a read of the selection below -

Memories of Minehead 1987 - Now
Best. Holiday. Ever
Review of a silver bungalow at Minehead
All the fun of the fair at Bognor Regis
Fantastic Family Holiday or Dodgy Old Camp?
Week 15 - Grateful for Spring Harvest at Butlins
A Celebration

Very soon we are heading to Butlins again - Bognor Regis this time. For the last three or four years we have been to Minehead and Skegness, I think our last visit to Bognor Regis was in June 2009 for my Mum and Dads 40th wedding anniversary so it will be super to see how things have changed in the last four years. That large picture of the 3 kids and Bob the Builder is from our 2009 trip. The other photos are from differing trips taken over the last 8 years.  I worked out this will be our tenth visit in 8 years!

We are due to stay at the Wave hotel and the kids don't know it yet but my Mum is coming with us too, this will make them squeal with delight when they realise and she really needs this break her the death of her Mum earlier this year.

I asked Miss E what she was most looking forward to and she asked me if they still have the puppet theatre.  Of course I was thrilled to be able to tell her that they do still have the classic puppet theatre at Bognor Regis and this year they have also opened a new character theatre and she'll be able to watch shows like Angelina Ballerina and Fireman Sam there.

JJ fell in love with the dodgems when we were at Minehead in April this year and he will be stoked to see the new fun fair at Bognor Regis. It is so nice now he is a little older and can head off on his own for short amounts of time.

Miss M has already been asking me about the food and if we will have buffet and she was super pleased to hear we would indeed be having buffet in the premium dining room and that she could have freshly cooked pancakes if she fancied!

Mum is looking forward to the evening entertainment and I'll be enjoying a glass of wine with her. It will be nice to have children old enough to sit with us for a while and enjoy the thrill of being out in the evening and having a glass of coke and packet of crisps, that was my exciting memories of being on holiday as a child!

This is the girls and I out for the evening in Butlins, Bognor Regis when we went in 2009, they were 23 months.

We all need this holiday, getting ready to move house and jobs is pretty stressful and a few days of just chilling and enjoying time together is what we all need.  I'll report back and let you know how we get on.

Disclosure: We have been provided with 2 rooms at the Wave Hotel for 4 nights, including half board for 6 of us. I have not been instructed what to write and I'll be reviewing Butlins honestly.

Review: Harumika Style Studio

My little girls were introduced to the Harumika range of styling dolls a couple of months ago and they really do love them. I have to be honest and say they are not the cheapest of toys but they do provide hours of entertainment and will last a very long time. The sets are recommended for age 6 upwards but my girls at 5 are really capable of using them and I can imagine the play sets still coming out when they are 8 or 9, or perhaps even more. Miss M is very into fashion and seems to have a great eye for pairing up outfits and colours so I'm quite happy to let to play with something that helps to develop this creativity and style.

My girls were sent the Harumika Style studio from HobbyCraft to try out and review, this retails for £29.99 and I can honestly say that I would have bought this for my girls birthday in July if they were not sent it. The girls have a wide range of kids crafts and this adds nicely to their stash!

Take a look at what you get for your money -

1 large sturdy plastic carry case that will display 3 mannequins/ doll forms
9 pieces of different fabric (assorted sizes/ shapes)
2 belts
1 plastic tool to help you wrap the body forms

One of the things I really like about Harumika is that you do not have to buy their own pieces, you can use any fabric or ribbon you fancy and make tons of different creations and use your imagination. The carry case on this set is excellent, it is very sturdy and has a strong clasp that keeps the box shut and then you can display the mannequins and see them through the plastic cover.

The mannequins/ body form dolls are so easy to use as they have a slot in the back with a silicon piece which allows you to push the fabric in and it grips it but you can pull it out easily and the silicon keeps it shape. We have had one set for about 3 months now and it has been used tons of times and it still looks perfect, as new. See how easy it is -

The girls tell me this is a great toy and they give it 10/10. I honestly can't think of any down points for it either!

Disclosure: We were sent this set for the purpose of this review.  I have not been instructed what to write and I remain honest.

#R2BC - Week 21, Year 3

Hello all, welcome.

It is a genuine pleasure to see you all here. Did you see that there was 34 links up last week to Reasons to be Cheerful?  That really made me day, it made me busy trying to get to everyone and say hi but that is a  good kind of busy.

If I'm honest I'm not feeling the cheeriest of people this week. Since a dear friend was rushed into hospital last week I have just felt plain sad. I'm praying harder than I have ever prayed before and the signs are good but it is serious stuff and she is not out of the deep water yet.

Add to that the fact I've felt poorly since last Friday and been up and down you get a bit of a droopy Mich! Because it is Reasons to be Cheerful time and I'm not allowed to be glum, sad or overwhelmed today (that will be the house move!) I am going to cite my overriding reason for being glad as this linky. Last Friday I published a post titled 'Reasons to be Cheerful  is the best linky ever - fact!' and really I should have saved it for this weeks post.  I am amazed at the amount of people that the power of positive thinking helps and I'm so grateful that God put it on my heart to start this link-up.

Ohh we, also had a fabulous day at Legoland at the weekend, despite me being in the loo rather a lot! here is my kids at the end of the day enjoying a slush together, they really are very easy to please! You can see lots of photos from the day here if you fancy.

Crazy With Twins
Blogger of the Week
I don't think there is anyone I could choose this week except Emma at Crazy with Twins.  She has only joined in with #R2BC a couple of times but is a lady with a massive amount of resilience and I have been super-impressed with her positive outlook on life in general.
At the moment Emma is in hospital receiving radiotherapy and if you read her #R2BC post from last week you'll understand a little more about the enormous task that this is. Emma battled leukemia as a young girl and I pray she will conquer this cancer too.  May the Lord be with you Emma.

Grab a new badge please
I keep forgetting to say as my URL has changed, can you grab a new #R2BC blog badge please, pretty please.....  on go on - love you forever! or if you happen to link to me (no pressure!) then the URL nowadays is http://www.mummyfromtheheart.com.

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

Now join in and spread the love
Can I please respectfully ask that if you link up, you at least visit one other blog that is linked up and leave them some comment love. I visited all linked up posts last week and it was the same superb commenters again and again (you know who you are, superstar commenters). I know you are busy, so am I, it just makes a real difference when people go and visit someone new - go on be brave - leave a comment for a name you do not recognise, instead of the same friends.

If you are new to #R2BC then have a read about what I believe and why #R2BC started, it has literally changed my life to have this weekly focus on what is good (or God) in life. How easy is it to allow things to become doom and gloom? So if you want to join in, go for it. Link up what you fancy (well as long as it is not just a blatant advert), a recipe, the simple things in life, photos, a story - whatever! Add in the blog hop code so people can travel around and then visit others and share the comment love.

But if you are not sure how to add in code or anything else, don't worry - just go for it and leave a link to your post in the comments and I'll link you up.

New Duplo Valley now open at Legoland Windsor

I am in my kids good books at the moment, I think I must have at least another couple of days of good behaviour that I can get out of them as a thank you for the superb day they had at Legoland Windsor yesterday. We were lucky enough to go along to the press opening of the new Duplo Valley Splash and Play land and boy did we have an amazing day.

We have been to Legoland before and I wrote a comprehensive review from our trip last October but I can honestly say this was our best trip ever this time. There is so much to do and see at Legoland nowadays that you cannot get it all done in a day and this is not a bad thing. This time we went on new rides that we had never been on before, my personal favourite was Atlantis and I did not expect that at all. I'm never too impressed with aquariums and seeing the fish and sharks but the view from the submarines is stunning and the water so clear that you can capture some really excellent photos, but anyway Atlantis was last years big ride and this visit we were there for the Duplo Valley Splash and Play area.

It was quite funny really as I told my 9 year old son JJ why we were going to Legoland and I asked where his swim shorts were. 'Nah Mum, I won't be going on it, Duplo is for babies' is what he told me the night before we set off. Luckily I knew better and packed them anyway. Take a look at these pictures of Drench Towers and see what you think -

and here is JJ telling you what he thinks (sorry he is a bit quiet in comparison to the fun happening in the background!) -

Apparently after playing on it for a good hour, it is not for babies any more  it is for big kids like him!  But let me assure you it is for all kids - old and young! Parents can join their children (as long as they are in swimwear) and as long as the little ones are 0.9m or over they can use the smaller slides. But fear not if your little ones are smaller still they can use the Splash Safari area which is a  perfect haven of larger than life Duplo animals and water squirting fun.

We loved this area and think it will be a massive hit. I saw there was a good size adult seating area at the top of Drench Towers and it looked like there would be a refreshments outlet there in the summer. My one tip to Legoland would be to label the toilets better as people were confused as to which were changing rooms and which toilets and I think to be honest there needs to be more of them. I did see there was a big buggy park area, which was good. I imagine this area will become heaving in the summer with people wanting to cool down in the water.

Fairy Tale Brook Ride
We all enjoyed a nice serene boat ride on the new Fairy Tale Brook and I can honestly say some of the Lego creations on there are breathtaking, Miss E had with her my old camera and this was such a joy to her to capture all the Lego characters and animals across the park.

Brickville Play Area
As the splash area has been built, the old Duplo park has gone and a new Brickville play area has come in its place.  It is superb, my little girls are nearly 6 and still loved it but JJ at age 9 really was too old now. The area is full of spongy AstroTurf which miss E thought was beautiful. We first visited this area about 10.30am and it was as quiet as can be and a real delight and by 3pm it was super busy. Luckily my kids are older and I'm able to let them out of my sight, this might have been harder if I had younger kids. There is only one entrance into the park which I like though.

What you have seen here is just a glimpse of what is in the Duplo Valley area, there is also the new Raft River Racers ride which we did not get to try out, the Duplo Valley Airport which all my kids loved, Duplo train which the girls liked to be able to ride alone and the Duplo puppet theatre which was a perfect end to our super busy day.

Take a look at my full Legoland review for more information about the park as a whole and the Legoland Windsor website too. You can follow Legoland Windsor on Twitter or Facebook to stay up to date as well.

I asked the family what their best part of the day was and here is a montage of the best bits for them -

Visiting Legoland Windsor
If you want to take a trip to Legoland either book online more than 7 days in advance to secure the best prices from Legoland or look out for a deal. Personally we always visit having exchanged our Tesco vouchers into deals but if you google something like 'Legoland Windsor deal' you get a wealth of offers that you can investigate.

Disclosure: Thank you to the press office at Legoland Windsor for our fabulous day out, including entrance, VIP bands, Lego loot and goodie bag. I am very happy to provide my honest opinion of the new Duplo Valley area and I can confirm that I have not been instructed what to write.

Should I be concerned for the future?

I hate the thought of labeling one of my children as naughty or challenging but the truth is that one of them is just so much more spirited than the other two. I have to say I like feisty and I always prayed prior to having my children that I would not get boring and submissive children.  Of course now I'm regretting that, as an obedient child would be much easier, not half as much fun but definitely easier.

Don't get me wrong we are now past the stage where every day is an issue, in fact we can go weeks without her getting in trouble but she does just look for the ways to be minxy! Touching the things she should not touch, going against what you say, telling fibs, making up stories and dreaming of being so much older than she is. When will I let her have high heels, when can she get the bus into town with her friends? Have I mentioned she is not yet 6 years old.

If God was not on my side, I'd seriousness be worrying for the future. Take today for example - in the car on the way to pick Daddy up from the station she asked me what it means to be grounded. We talked about it and I ended by saying 'but you hopefully won't get grounded, as your behaviour will be good'. 'Oh OK Mummy' she says 'but I can't wait to be old enough for detention. Do you know what detention is Mummy?' 'Yes babe I know about detention you don't want that though, it is just for kids who are naughty at school'. 'No Mum, it is really fun, me and my friends are going to all go together and we can whisper and stuff'.

Oh dear, where do you go from that?

Phasing out the American pre-teen TV series I think!

Oh how I love this little madam, just look at her. My precious poppet.

Reasons to be Cheerful is the best linky ever - fact!

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

That is quite a big claim - isn't it? But this isn't about me and how great I am, this is about YOU and how fabulous you are.

Two and a half years ago I created a linky, one that I knew I needed. It was to help me focus on what is great in life and to remind me to stop and be thankful for all the blessings God bestows on me.  Not content with doing this alone, I invited you all to join me and over the last 124 weeks so many of you have done that and that in itself makes me really grateful.

Reasons to be Cheerful is not one of the BIG linkys, I can't boast of ever having 150 or even 80 people linked up in one week.  If you join in, it won't give you 100's of page views or masses of comments. This linky was never meant to be one that people joined in with to boast their stats and get an easy win.  Oh no, this linky is not what I would call a 'blogging linky'.  #R2BC is about self-awareness and about you as a person, our blog is just the way we are expressing ourselves.

I suppose I ought to substantiate why I feel #R2BC is the best linky ever -

+   I know that one woman used it as a way to stay focused on the future and the positive in life when her husband was made redundant and had no job for quite some time

+   There's another lady who has continued to cite her reasons to be cheerful even when grieving from the loss of her father

+   Then there is the super strong lady who joined us when she was going through two (yes two) different types of cancer

+   Not forgetting the woman who has always had a downer on life, she recently emailed to tell me that #R2BC had changed her outlook on life and she now sees hope in each day

+   Just on this weeks post someone told me that #R2BC was a comfort blanket to them and they could come back to it when they needed it

I could go on, there are plenty more stories and so many people who keep coming back and joining in and that is why I'm so pleased to be here when they need my little linky.  At times I have wondered why I do this linky, it is a big comment to keep something going for such a long time but like with everything God has a plan and a reason and this week I really see it.

Not only has Reasons to be Cheerful helped me to see the good (or God) in things but it has helped so many of you too.....

Thanks for joining in.  Sorry if I sound a bit soppy, I am genuinely wiping a tear away as I type this. Thank to every one of you who has ever joined in with #R2BC, long may it continue.

Love this community!  Mich x

Starting every day well - #R2BC, week 20 year 3

Welcome to this weeks edition of Reasons to be Cheerful

This weeks I am sharing a life lesson that I have learnt and then forgot and have to re-learn again.  Over and over I go through this, all part of my journey of faith. It annoys me that I forget things and can't seem to retain everything I need but thankfully I have a loving God who likes the fact I try and blesses me anyway.

I find that when I make time to pray first thing in the morning, everything else is kept in perspective and tends to fall in place during the day. This lesson makes all the difference to my attitude and helps me feel more grateful and cheerful.

Have you ever read this?

I got up early one morning,
And rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish,
I didn’t have time to pray.

Troubles just tumbled about me,
And heavier came each task.
"Why doesn’t God help me?" I wondered.
He answered, "You didn’t ask."

I tried to come into God’s presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"Why, child, you didn’t knock."

I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on gray and bleak.
I wondered why God didn’t show me.
He said, "You didn’t seek."

I woke up early this morning,
And paused before entering the day.
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.

Source unknown

I love that, it makes so much sense to me.  Like much of life we rush about and expect to accomplish everything when actually sometimes we just need to stop doing and start being!

Who will write for BritMums for June and July?
Congratulations to Mama Syder, you were the lucky blogger chosen to write the Positively Inspirational round-up for BritMums for June and July.  I know you will do an excellent job as your whole attitude to life just seems so balanced and positive.  Thanks to all those who expressed an interest.

Blogger of the Week
This weeks featured #R2BC blogger is Becky from Lakes Single Mum. Becky was one of the first bloggers I met online and at the time she was going through some tough stuff. It has been wonderful to watch her move up north and then see her grow in confidence and happiness as she has established herself in a beautiful part of the country with her lovely kids. I looked back at past #R2BC linkies and discovered Becky first joined up in January 2011!  She is one of our founder members.

Come and join in.....
Why don't you join up with Reasons to be Cheerful this week? It is such a fabulous opportunity to stop and reflect on your life and to see the good in it. Have a read about what I believe and why #R2BC started, it has literally changed my life to have this weekly focus on what is good (or God) in life.  How easy is it to allow things to become doom and gloom?.

So if you want to join in, go for it.  We are a no rules kind of linky - you link up what you fancy (well as long as it is not just a blatant advert), a recipe, the simple things in life, photos, a story - whatever!
