Essential Medical Appointments Your Child Needs Annually

As a mom, it can be overwhelming to keep up with all the medical appointments that our children need within a year. From paediatricians to dentists and everything in between, it can be challenging to remember which doctor or dentist your child should visit and at what time.

Keeping up with each child’s appointments can feel like a full-time job, and the last thing we want is for our children to miss out on essential check-ups because we forgot. This article will help you understand the medical appointments your child needs yearly and how to manage them hassle-free.

Paediatrics

Your child will need to visit a paediatrician once a year for a comprehensive check-up, especially if he/she is still very young. To make sure your child is healthy, your doctor will check hearing, vision, height, and weight. The doctor will also help you keep track of your child’s immunisations and suggest any necessary vaccines according to age guidelines.

Dermatologist

It is essential to keep a close eye on your child's skin health. It is recommended that your child sees a dermatologist once a year to check for any rashes, acne, or other skin-related issues. Some children struggle with eczema or warts, which can be easily treated with early detection. So if you see something suspicious, act on it.

Eye Exam

A regular eye exam is crucial for your child's academic and social life. Poor vision puts a child’s ability to learn and socialise at risk. If your child experiences headaches or blurry vision, please make sure to schedule an appointment with an eye specialist. A routine check-up with an optometrist once a year can detect issues such as astigmatism, strabismus, and retinitis pigmentosa and provide treatment at an early stage.

Dentist

Dental check-ups are more critical than ever, especially with kids' excessive intake of sugary drinks. Tooth decay is one of the leading chronic illnesses affecting young children in the UK. So you must take your child to the dentist every six months for a comprehensive check-up. A dentist can detect and treat cavities, gum disease, or any related disorders.

Mental Health Check-Up

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Children’s mental health issues continue to rise due to huge administrative burdens, social pressures, virtual lives, or other reasons that could impact children’s well-being. Therefore it is essential to send your child for a mental health check-up once a year to detect any signs of anxiety, depression or traumatic stress

Making sure that your children attend essential medical appointments annually can help keep them healthy and happy throughout their lives. In addition, early detection of health issues is critical to effectively manage and treat any health problem.

Therefore, scheduling your child's regular check-ups with a paediatrician, dermatologist, dentist, optometrist, and mental health expert will ensure that you are giving them the best possible chance to succeed. As a mum, it is always reassuring to know our children are in good hands with regular medical check-ups.

Reasons to be Cheerful - Dentists, Walking and Embroidery

Where does the time go friends? How did it end up being Friday evening already? I remembered yesterday morning that it was Thursday and I should write a reasons to be cheerful post but then time has escaped me. I do find that the kids being home totally sucks my time away, but I'm trying to remind myself not to moan about that as they won't be around and be of an age where they want to be with me forever!

Despite the miserable weather June has been a good month so far and we've been making sure we have some family time together out and about. Here are just a few of the things that have been making me grateful -

*    I've been taking part in some FitBit challenges to help me move more and they have been fun.

*    I've been taking lots of walks around my home and some of the grass is being let go to meadow, it is so pretty!

*    Miss E and I have both enjoyed taking up a new craft project each, I am trying embroidery and she is doing chunky cross stitch.

Dummies to go............says the dentist.

We had our first visit to the dentist with the girls yesterday. They were both very good really. M laid back on Daddy and went for a ride on the chair but she was not overfussed to open her mouth and reveal all. From what the dentist saw she said that M's front teeth appear to be being pushed forward a bit and did she suck her thumb/ have a dummy? My heart dropped, as expected she told me we had to get rid of the dummy asap as it was affecting M's teeth development.

E was a good little girl and went for a ride on Mummy and with the promise of a Princess sticker she opened up for a full examinatin. Her teeth do not appear to have moved but of course if we take one dummy away, they will both have to go.

The girls are now 21 months and we planned to get rid of them at 2 years anyway, so you would think this should not be such a hassle but as parents we really have to steel ourselves sometimes to go through the nightmare of teaching discipline/ respect etc.

We faithfully came home with great intentions of the dummies being gone for good. I put the girls down for a nap, E, bless her got her Alfie teddy asked me for a dummy and I told her no, she rolled over and went to sleep. Beautiful - just how it should be! M on the other hand was inconsolable and screamed and cried for over an hour whilst calling for her best friend 'dum dum'. Unfortunately M has no special toy, the thing she loves is her parents and her dummy and none of those spend the night with her!

A and I have decided to wean the girls off, they can have them in their cots for a week or two and no where else (which means I have M screaming at me now as she is hungry and would normally have her dummy for 1/2 hr at this time of day). So step one has commenced and in a short while step two will and the dummies will be gone for good!

If I am honest I will miss having something that I know instantly soothes my babes and call me a bad parent but when there are two highly strung toddlers screaming at you it really helps sometimes.
